I am having the worst time with this. I have spent 3 weeks struggling with swap magic and backing up games. I just put a new store bought copy of True Crimes NY in my dvd burner, used dvd decrypter and followed all instructions to rip the iso and back it up. The game boots up but doesnt actually play, its all choppy and skips all over. WTF! i just dont get it, ive tried different games, different media, different burners, i just dont understand why the hell this is happening!! HELP! im using sony dvd+r and verbatim dvd+r, burning at 4x. This just doesnt seem worth it anymore, I couldve bought the games on ebay for the price im wasting on blanks!! anyone have anything else i can try?

Try DVD-R discs and updating your firmware if it isn't already the latest version.

thats what someone else told me. when i first started, i used a memorex DVD-R. ps2 didnt play it, so i tried memorex dvd +r..it worked. so i bought a 50 pk of verbatim DVD+R. these are the ones im having a problem with. those and the sony DVD-R. ill pick some dvd-r's up and see what happens. i just figured this whole time it was the iso's i was getting, but now im seeing same thing from doing an actual backup of a owned game, it makes me think its the media, also since same result using multiple dvd drives...has to be the media, or my laser is getting burned out already...but it plays normal and some of the burned games no problem. is it true swap magic will wear out my laser in just a few months?

No..... I've had my Swap Magic 3.6 Plus almost a year and it has done nothing to my PS2's laser whatsoever, except it boots all of my PS2 backup games flawlessly.

Sounds like a burning and media issues to me. First, make sure your burner's got the latest/current firmware. If you're going with reputable/high quality DVD-R media, then it should be fine. And if you're going with reputable/high quality DVD+R media, then make sure you "book type" them into DVD-ROM. Of course, DVD-ROM format is the best and most compatible for all PS2 consoles. Hence, all original PS2 games are pressed as DVD-ROM only, therefore, any functional PS2 console will/can read/play them without any issues whatsoever.

Good luck at burning!!

Try booktyping the DVD+R's.

53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).

ok now im really confused. should i try to burn with dvd-r's? im consistantly burning games that boot up, start, but skip, both video and audio...skips. so i know its not the game, and its a new ps2 and normal games play fine, so i know its not the ps2. ive tried burning with other peoples burners, so the only thing it could be is the media.

so which is the best method....DVD+R and set booktype to dvd-rom(which ive already done) or DVD-R and set booktype to dvd-rom. and since i can only burn at 6x..do you think not being able to burn at anything slower could be a factor?

THANKS...seriously ive spent 3 weeks and 400 dvds trying to figure this out with no luck...with the exception of about 6 games....

That really depends more on what v.PS2 do you have. If you have a new v.14 or earlier slilmline, it shouldn't have any issues with DVD-R's or DVD+R's. You could try picking up some quality DVD+R's like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Those Verb's you picked haven't been working either?

23. Q. What version is my PS2?

HAPPY FRIGGIN DAY!!! I FINALLY GOT IT!! after 3 weeks of trial and error, this is kind of embarassing, but all my games work great now that ive burned at 4x on to DVD-r's instead of +r's!! the only reason i used +r's is cause a few games worked, so i thought that was the key, but evidentally, some games burn on +r, but for the most part you have to use -r! oh man, my headaches are OVER! thanks all for the help!
