Hello all

Can anyone tell me if I can use a 400w power supply unit with an Abit A17 motherboard.
I know it is recommended to use 300w at minimum but I would like to make sure I can use a 400w before installing. My 300w power supply unit has gone and I need to change it so I am thinking of replacing it with a better one. Please help....Thanks...

The reason why I am asking is because someone told me that if I use something too high it could burn out some or all of the motherboard. I don't know alot about power units so I need to make sure. I am good with computers but power supplies is not my strong point...

the higher the wattage the better as can handle more drives & whatever. the lower the wattage than is not as good as can't handle as much & more likely to take something out when psu fries.

Rule of thumb, more is better when it comes to PSU's.

If there comes a time for more internal hardware, some USB external USB devices, etc. all can take away from your basic needs so go for it! Most today say that even 400 is a bit low and push for a bit more, but I believe it is a good base to start from.
