It all depends what BENQ negotiated with Ahead (Nero) ! Manufacturers negotiate to package the software with their wares as an incentive to the buyers... ! Some manufacturers will have OEM package that are almost complete ; others will get strickly the basic !

Try to burn a DVD Video on Nero & see whether it prompts you for a plug-in or allow you to burn successfully.
Most OEM version do not allow DVD burning & usage of Wave Editor & Soundtrax.

One of the things i notice on my OEM nero 6 version is it had Nero Express only, and no Nero Burning ROM. That was just one of the things. Upgraded to Nero 7, and burning rom is in there now. Here is what nero says about OEM:
Quote:
I have an OEM version of Nero that does not contain all features of Nero 6. What do I do?

As you purchased Nero with a recorder, you have an OEM version that can only be used with that single recorder. OEM versions are limited versions, which do not contain all features. The manufacturer of the recorder decides about the features which will be implemented in the Nero OEM version. That means your version of Nero does not include all features of the full (=retail) version.

If you would like to upgrade to a full version, you need to order an upgrade serial number or upgrade CD. This serial number turns your OEM version into the latest Nero 6 retail release. It also enables you to use up to 4 recorders at the same time. Please visit our online shop for information and pricing.

Important note
You have to key in your old Nero serial number.
If you don't have it anymore, please contact us again and tell us how you purchased your previous version of Nero.

Thanks for the reply...
I did not start digging around Neros site yet.
I converted 1 AVI to DVD and this has worked ok. One interesting item regarding the size of the original AVI. The original size was about 450meg. When I converted this file to DVD it took over 2 gig of space! The Nero 6 software allowed the converstion and burned it to the BenQ just fine but this space issue has me wondering if there is a different way to compress without image/quality loss??

Happy New Year everyone....
Also....
January 7th is Russian Christmas so we can all go out and buy another present!

Cheers...

One other item is that I originally had an early version of 6 which I used just for my CD burner. I overlayed the OEM version on top of my 6. I can probably look for my original 6 and upgrade this one if I have the license number. Since I never had a DVD burner I never looked into the DVD burning programs within the 6 I had.

The reason I installed the OEM is that it has the LightScribe software bundled into the OEM install. Someone else in the forum had a link for the lightscribe. I am thinking I can shuffle the install and get the best of both worlds, LightScribe and my original 6 with all the bells and extras...

Max...
thx...
After I checked my system again, the OEM install did not disturb the original 6. I have the original interface. So, all is well in the world, no hunger, no war and the sun is shineing...

Happy New Year....!

I have heard of file size increasing when converting but yours sounds a bit extreme. Try this program, it is free and does a good job (never noticed the file size thing, so this one might do the same thing) It can do lots of things, i haven't checked out all the features.

Also Nero Vision is the program that is supposed to do the AVI conversions in Nero. I didn't know Nero express could do that.

Happy new year to you also! From what i have seen online, Russian women look great! Not sure what that has to do with anything, but i said it anyway. :)

Hi All,

Just for a bit of interest Maxburn when you use DVD-Video it also when writing to disk grows very large like 600 megs becomes close on 4 gigs and a quick question why does everyone convert first when DVD-Video converts and then burns all in one.

Thanks

Congratulations! You are one lucky guy. A good woman is worth more than anything else i can think of. Guess that makes me a romantic.

@slapgat
If that is a program

when you use DVD-Video
i haven't used it. If you are talking about converting from AVI to a DVD format, then the DVD format has lots of extra stuff added to make it work as a DVD. The ISO, VOB, IFO, and all the extra junk found in a regular DVD, increases file size pretty quickly. An AVI can be small, and huge when converted to a DVD format. Not sure of the exact ratio, or the complete technical breakdown of it all. .
