ok here goes, hope someone can help me...PLEASE!!...having run Azureus fine for the last 6 months i unfortunatly had to reset my laptop back to factory settings (was going too slow!)..now i wish i hadnt!!..ive reinstalled Azureus, ive opened the ports on my router (bt voyager 2100),ive allowed these ports in my software firewall (Mcafee) and ive changed Azureus port to 55789 (as well as my router etc)..when i do a nat test it says OK...my problem is that on the bottom of Azureus it only shows 4 users,my smilies are green and my download speed is 2kbs,ive checked all the download speed settings and these are all set to a reasonable amount, ive tried disabling upnp but all to no avail, after 5 days of fiddling im now at my wits end...PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Its b/c Azureus is java based, thats why I dont like it, and starting to be many others. U should make the switch to ”Torrent. If u know how to get rid of NAT error and forward/open ports then ull be fine. Are u using public or private trackers?. If public leave on DHT settings, if not then turn it off.

U can get ”Torrent here ~*~ http://www.utorrent.com/

If u have any more questions about ”Torrent settings, leave a msg here and I'll see it ;-D

No sig for u!.

cbrooks, what exactally would java have to do with it? I know sun just released an update, and the latest Azureus build recommends using it on the website, but i upgraded and saw no difference in performance. utorrent is the only one left i have NOT tried, and I am thinking that my performace problem, and perhaps many other's here, has to do with their connection. My bandwidth tests out at about 18K down and 6K up using this tool: http://www.myspeed.com/pe/index.html. with this type of connection, sold as broadband here, i am starting to think that none of these torrent tools can provide the kind of performance needed/expected for large files, like video. I get much better speeds just using massdownloader or native downloading in programs like Opera or IE. The catch is that all the good stuff is in torrents now. Okay, I'll give utorrent a go and let u all know!

@herojig

The reason I brought up Java is that no matter what u do, u could everything perfect and still get msgs from Azureus b/c its Java based, half the time they mean nothing. ”Torrent imo is like FireFox, its dumbed down for easier use and way more efficiency, less junk u dont need.

I'm glad to hear ur giving it a try, there would be less questions/problems in this P2P thread if everyone did ;-D

No sig for u!.

Well, i dont know if this is a fair test, but Azureus 2.0.6 side by side with utorrent 1.3, on the same machine and also tested on 2 dif machines on my home network, using the same torrent: 4456B25EC80A3BBA1798AA29A06C75E0DA519C70 yeilds this result:
utorrent is slightly to much slower. Estimated completion in utorrent is weeks vs. days in Azureus.

I am downloading several torrents, including the test torrent, in Azureus, and only the one test torrent in utorrent.

So, if this is a fair test (please comment on that) I dont see any advantage over using utorrent, but i do like the simple interface. very much like Azureus but without all the options. I don't like the utorrent stats display, that's not as robust as the advanced stats plugin in Azureus, which is a VERY good display inmho.

Both tools report the same swarm but Azureus is connected to more seeds and peers 11/15 vs. 4/15 respectively, so this probally has something to do with it. (they are both using the same tracker URL).

Well, I am a novice at this but trying to learn, so thanks for your comments.

U see the thing is I like to do more than just d/l torrents. Run five programs, try and d/l w/ azureus and search the web at same time. Now do it w/ ”Torrent. Notice the difference?. I really dont see much a difference in speeds w/ the two clients. I do get a little bit faster w/ ”Torrent, not sure why.

The reason I boast ”Torrent isnt just for the speeds it gives me, its the functionality of the small interface. I get my absolute max speeds w/ it and I dont even notice it running at all.

and thats why I love ”Torrent over azureus ;-D

No sig for u!.

I getcha cbrooks, thanks. I think I will keep utorrent on the laptop then, where processing&ram is limited, unlike the mega desktop i just bought. But I think the point you make should get out to more people: changing clients is not going to make things go alot faster. I learned this myself now by trying them ALL! I really think my problems are with with inherently slow torrents and a really bad broadband service, too bad it's the only one here...
