DDR RAM? Whats the diffrence betwenn Pc2100 & Pc3200

Hey
I got my mates old computer, a compaq.
It only has 256mb of Pc2100u RAM, so i decided i need a update of about 512mb.
When searching the net a noticed many diffrent kinds, most notebly PC2100 and PC3200!
So whats the diffrence?
Can i use PC3200 even though mines is using PC2100 right now?
What is DDR DIMM?
Any help apprecaited

The dfifference is the speed it runs at PC3200 = 400mhz? and PC2100 = 266 i think, but if u do get a PC3200 be careful because some mobo dont surport it also will only run at the slowest speed of the memory installed.

which motherboard have u got? i cant c anything that says that there lol

they don't mahe pc2300 ram. what is the model# of the compaq so can see specs on it?

2100 runs at 133MHZ 3200 runs at 200MHz 200 - 133 = 77
difference is 77MHz
