I understand that it's mostly the rule to rebuild a DVD9 game to fit onto a DVD5 in order to play using Swap Magic and other methods. But I have a few questions about this.

I have some Ritek DVD+DL's and Swap Magic 3.3 w/ a V12 PS2. My first question is if it's possible to burn a +DL booktyped to ROM using DVD Decryptor. My second question is, if that's possible then would a DVD9 game burned to a DVD+DL booktyped work at all? Or would it not because of the high TOC or something like that? Which brings even more questions, is it possible to do a TOC swap using an official printed DVD9 game disc, to get the backup to work? Or does Swap Magic not play ANY DL burned games? I just want to make sure before I go and waste a DL disc cause they ain't cheap and I only have 4 right now. Heh, sorry for all the questions, I know some should be asked in different forums but I generalized all my questions into one DVD backup discussion. =D

Oh and one more I almost forgot. Would upgrading to SwapMagic 3.6 from 3.3 make a difference in playback with backups? As in better framerates and shorter loadtimes for some games? I don't see how a boot disc would really effect a backups performance (usually media, the iso or the burner is at fault) but I just figured I'd ask that too while I'm at it. XD

first of all sm cant boot DVD9 what ever you do so theres no point trying you are just wasteing very expensive disks you need to rip the to normal dvd5

there is no diff in 3.3 to 3.6 only 3.6 can run progams of a usb pen drive

nah, ps2s depending on the version can boot dl disks.i think version 4 or is it 5 and up can boot DL disks no problem, and yes you can actually copy the entire game such as 50 cent bullet proff, GT4 and gow into a DVD9. this comes under pircay so i cant go into further detail of how i can only provide hints. most people copy rented games which is unethical you are only allowed to copy games you own and have paid for already, for reasons of archiving, or backing up a damaged disk that your ps2 cannot play. if you need help on backing up to dvd 9 i can only help if you can show that you meet these conditions.

lets get copyin!!!!!

Spare us the ethics lecture. I've taken that class in school, if people choose to backup games they own or not, it's none of your concern. How could someone show you they own the game? It's not like you're physically are in their prescence lol. Swap Magic 3.3 is identical to SM 3.6, the only difference is SM 3.6 has USB support. There's no point in upgrading to to SM 3.6 if you have SM 3.3. SM 3.6 doesn't have DVD-9 support. You'd have to shrink it to DVD-5 to boot a backup with Swap Magic. There are several guides in the forums for shrinking popular DVD-9 games to DVD-5. Which game are you trying to shrink?

18. Q. How do I shrink a DVD-9 game to DVD-5?
A. This differs on a game to game basis. Typically when shrinking a DVD-9 game to fit on a DVD-5 DVD, you'll want to take out FMV's, dummy files, and extras. Not all games have dummy files. For popular games search the forums and you'll find some nice rebuild guides for Xenosaga, God of War, and GTA 4. There's only 14 or 15 DVD-9 games at present, so don't panic. You only have to do this with Swap Magic or HD Advance 2.0 and earlier.

Here's a great DVD-9 to DVD-5 guide with pictures written by Alkohol: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/275350#1562177

Tokijin can't you tell by her (the impression i get) screen name that she's Mega Coooooool and doesn't have a clue????

to back up a DVD DL all you do is ISO read it with DVD Decrypter and then ISO write it. if your chip (you need one here) doest have the ability to convert the OTP to a PTP format in software you'll need to patch the ISO prior to burning it with the Toxic patcher.

EDIT just to add a V3 will boot dual layer originals, i cant attest to a V1 or V2 as i don't have access to one.

Lol. Yeah I don't like going off on people, but when someone tries to lecture me on their value system, I have little tolerance for that. People have their own beliefs, ideals, and values, keep yours to yourself. Yes I guess the Mega Cooooool screen name was a hint lol.

I completely understand the legal issues of piracy and whatnot, what I don't understand is how a question specifically about DVD9 games and their backing-up would prompt a response about the ethics of pirating. I simply wanted to know if I could make good use of the few DVD+DL's I own and not have to rebuild it to a DVD5. Hell, no offense to .50 and G-Unit (fans too), but I wouldn't waste my time to even pirate that game. =P

Thanks Boobooman, Tokijin and KC, it's not really important enough for me to go through the rebuilding process, it was more of an inquistive question more then anything else. The game was Wild Arms: Alter Code F, btw. I haven't burned a DVD+DL yet, and some came free with my NEC 3550A and I figured if WA:ACF could be backed straight to a DL it'd be a good "christening" of my DL age, plus a learning experience.

Lol I would never pirate 50 cent bulletproof either after reading the reviews of the game. The only way to boot a DVD-9 game burned to DL media would be with a modchip like the Matrix Infinity or DMS 4. I have a Matrix Infinity, so I burn my DL games to Verbatim DVD+R DL media. A little heads up there TMACRPG, if you try to backup an original copy of Wild Arms Alter Code F, it's about an 8Gb file. I downloaded the game over Bittorrent and my copy is 4.27GB's. So somebody must've already rebuilt it. You can find a torrent for it on several sites.

9. Q. Where can I find PS2 games to download?

Oh the sting of a 12 year old's insults lol. I treat everyone in these forums with respect. When you try to tell other people what to copy or not copy, that's none of your business. If you don't copy games, good for you. In the real world outside of mommy and daddy's house, people have bills like car payments, insurance, rent, school, and may not have $50 to throw down everytime they want a new PS2 game. See some of us don't have rich parent's who buy us everything we want. So get off your moral high horse, if you even know what moral means. Maybe that haven't been over that word in 6th grade English.

Tokijin let's not forget in the midst of all those mortgage payments, car payments, etc...... most of us have little mega_cool's of our own so that cuts into the would be pocket change for buying games/movies. it's a shame though, my 3 yrs old has more common sense and respect then this poor neglected child.

If anyone is interested.

I used Alcohol 120% to backup 50cent Bulletproof on to a RIDATA DVD +R DL

Stuck it into my PS2 v.10 with DMS 4 EZI PRO using Toxic OS 0.04.

I get as far as the loading..... screen.

That's about it... Can't proceed further than that..

Any ideas ???

Thanks in advance...

Absolutely. Read the Toxic manual thoroughly.

By the way, thanks for the super-prompt reply.

Appreciate it!

what booktype did your burner put on the disk?

my pioneer is auto booktyping (cant be set) so it sets them at +R DL which works fine in my V7, -ROM is best.
