i have a really small fujitsu hard disk 9.52 gig.
the trouble is when i check the properties of my hard disk from My Computer it says used space is 5.60 gig. but when i go inside it and check the size of all my files it is only 2.50 gig.
my filing system is NTFS. cud it be becoz of the filing system?
as i said earlier i have a small hard disk and these 3 gigs can make a world of difference.
please try to help me out.
thanx in advance.

Is the recycle bin empty, have you done a disc clean up or a de-frag lately?
BTW, please be patient, we are all here of our own volition! This is a massive forum.

I had a similar problem and only found by accident when I was searching for something, some of the AVI files had, which you know are a minimum of around 700MB) got into mysterious places like documents and settings when I thought they had been deleted. I am afraid you will need to look through every file you have. I experimented by trying to remember some of the big files I had recently deleted and then I typed them in search and that is when I found them.

The missing 3 gig could show up when you do a disk clean up! The files can hide themselves out of normal sight!
That's why I asked if you have done a disc clean up!

I havent misunderstood what you said and I am trying to say that I had hidden files that took up about 2GB without me realising. This was on an 80GB so I hadnt noticed until I started clearing everything off and I cant remember if I was defragging or scanning and I noticed an old file which I had deleted some weeks before.
Was this a gradual thing or are you saying you got up one morning and suddenly found 3GB had gone?

I take it when I say disc clean up you meant Crap cleaner? If this is the case you are barking up the wrong tree!
Click on start, click on my computer, right click your "C" drive/properties. Hit the disc clean up button. Depending on when you last did this & your PC specs it could take a while!
Once it has done it, make sure the following boxes are ticked,
Downloaded prog files
temp internet files
Recycle bin
Compress old files
Hit OK, it will ask if you are sure, hit yes & let the machine do the work!
Wow, post 2500!
Cue trumpet fanfare!

I didnt see anyonw ask this but are you running Norton System Works?
If you you will also need to "Empty Protected Files" During a recent deployment to Kuwait my laptop was running out of room and I peeked in and found that will all the DVD backups I had over 23 gigs of files that I didn't need. I looked thru them and seen that I didnt need them. Purged all and regained my space... Hope this helps someone out there

Hi,
the files might be lost and not showing up. I suppose you using data recovery tools such as Active@ Undelete or Uneraser to see if something can be done. Actually, that did helped me before in a simmilar situation, so try it out.
