Halo PC was never correctly optimized and thus (around its release date) is a resource hog.

Personally, at the time of this writing: I would suggest the 6600GT or 9800pro reference cards. I see them as the best bang for the buck since you can get both for around us150-us200. Of the two, I would suggest the 6600GT 256mb since it can handle HDR lighting.

You can get ATI's 9800Pro or 9600XT for right around us100 from newegg.com. Both are very good lower-level cards (compared to today's stardards and can play current games (both support dx9).

On the Nvidia side.. *looks*.... a 6600LE or 6200 for around the same prices. Personally, I would base the buy on whatever card-types the games you like prefer (i.e. - F.E.A.R. = Nvidia, Half-Life 2 = ATI)

I don't claim to be up to date on american pricing, since I don't live there, but the 6600GT and 9800 Pro sound a bit much. If you can find a 9600XT or similar then you'll do fine. You'll also need to check if you have an AGP slot. I'm almost certain you do, but you had better check since your current card doesn't use it. If you have PCI express, then look at the X600 series, maybe X700 if you can stretch to it. If AGP, then maybe the 9600 series instead. Go for the best you can afford, but avoid the GeForce FX, the mid range cards in that range underperform significantly.

I know how to use XE, and I now use google (try going to google and search for, for example £50 in dollars, and it will tell you what it is!)
Trouble is, direct exchange is irrelevant, as prices don't vary dependent on the strength of the currency, It's not a valid comparison. If you were to divide the price of the FX-57 (i think it's about $1000 isn't it?) in the USA by the exchange rate, you get a bit under £600. It's Over £700 in the UK.
QED

Interesting. Tell me though, is the £700 price for an fx-57 to be purchased in the UK? I've noticed on eBay that the price of some things from the UK are way way higher than if I were to buy the same item from a dealer in the US... So, would you mind helping me out here and maybe clarifying?

At newegg, an FX-57 is $1011, translating to £572.74. At UK store Ebuyer, it is £656.83, and that's the cheapest I've seen it.

Hi people.
I would like your input as to where you have seen the cheapest x700 Pro 256mb PCI-E for.

Im expecting the £80 mark, but cheaper is good.

Now, there are umpteen UK suppliers I have seen/used. I'll see which is the cheapest now, but If you want to monitor the prices if you're not buying straight away then:

Ebuyer £112.29 Connect3D Delivery is £4.69 normally, variable between £3.75 and £10.56 (from NWD to 5WD)
Savastore £109.22 Connect3D Delivery here is £4.64 normally
Dabs £105.96 Sapphire
Overclockers don't sell them lol
PlanetMicro don't sell them either
Microdirect (although beware, they don't have any RMA support) have them for £76.38 but see above
KustomPCs have them for £70.50 but as MD are out of stock.
Aria don't seem to sell them
Komplett have them for £112
PCnextday's website is down
EPCbuyer don't sell them
Misco have them for £105.74

They're all I can think of atm, but I'll have a scout around and find you the cheapest one from those for now.
Give me a few minutes on it.

Well they seem about £105 at most places, well in excess of what you asked for, but Kustompcs and Microdirect had them for under £80 but they're out of stock. You could check back and see if they return at that price but it sounds like the remnant of a special offer to me.

Cheers for the searching. I have seen a couple go on eBay for £60 + £7 P+P. I forgot to bid for them **Hits head off wall**. They were new and sealed aswell!

I have emailed kustompcs about the card and asked if they are getting stock soon and will it return at its current price. Just have to wait for there reply now.

Thank You!

No problem. I would generally avoid buying electronic stuff of ebay, sealed or unsealed, merely because if something goes wrong you often have serious problems. Thankfully a lot of companies, including I would think, ATi have a direct returns service without need to contact your supplier. But I'm sure you realise the concerns with buying obscure brand items via ebay.

Got a reply from kustompcs, they were reduced too clear and are not getting any more in stock. I'll try emailing Microdirect. Whats RMA support btw?

Return Merchandise authorisation. Means it's being sent back, although the irony is, I think we're suing them because they won't take it back, despite it being under warranty...
We've phoned dozens of times to ask for the delivery information and they won't tell us, merely stating that "oh, someone's been and you weren't there" - which is false anyway, because no one's been, and we were there on the date they said. It goes on.....

If your looking for a good card for around $100 go for a Geforce 6200. There about $100 on newegg and they can handle halo and pretty much all the new games out right now with the appropriate settings. It even has a built in overclocking utility where you can increase cpu and memory clock speeds and unlock more pixel pipelines. After overclocking this card actually runs as fast as a 6600GT! If you want to spend a little more u can just buy a 6600GT there down to about $130 now i think, maybe less.

ASRock 890GX PRO 3, AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE, 8GB GSkill Sniper DDR3 1333,
Main HDD: WD Raptor 74GB 10,000rpm, Storage HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Black,
Lite-On iHAS124-04 --> LT Burner Max FW,
Samsung BX2331 23" LED Widescreen LCD,
Xbox 360 Premium 20GB --> Hitachi v0078fk --> LT+2.0

Nah. a something 600 card will knock the socks off a 6200, particularly one without dedicated memory. I'd say 9600/X600 at the least.
