I'll keep it somewhat short, I acquired the ISO for the new Naruto Narutimate Hero 3 game for Playstation 2 several days ago. Since then I've been trying to burn it but have come up with disastrous results at every turn. Here are my stats:
I am using a Slim PS2: SCPH-70012 (which I heard was quite compatible with most DVD media), and using the tape and tissue method and the Swap Magic 3.6 CD (which I have used to play every legitimate Japanese game I've imported to date without fail, I only started attempting burning PS2 games with this ISO)
DVD-+RW information:

I'm using Memorex DVD+RW's (uh...I know...I heard bad things...I'm going to Best Buy tonight and looking into Maxell, Sony, Verbatim, TDK...etc. but this is all I have...they cant be so bad that they wont work at ALL can they?) and burning at 2.4x (thats my lowest speed for these CD's) and changing the BookType to DVD-ROM (I noticed though that I can only do this with Nero...if I use DVD Encrypter it remains as DVD+RW despite me telling it change the book type, and if I tell Alcohol 120% to change it to DVD-ROM the burning freezes before it even begins. I've searched numerous methods and programs to changing the booktype (omnipatcher, Lite-On BookType Utility, DVD Bitsetter, etc.) but NOTHING WORKS except Nero...which makes me question if Nero is accurately changing the Booktype at all)
however whenever I run it in the PS2 with the SwapMagic, I always recieve the message that I have not placed a valid PS2 disc in the console...I've gone through 5 discs already but since they are RW's its not to big a loss. Before I decide to buy new media, is there anything I've missed in terms of tweaking? I've been reading various message boards and FAQ pages for days...but to no avail.
I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer, thanks in advance for reading.

ps2's don't read rw discs very well if at all.. so wait until you get some DVD-R or DVD+R discs and then try again.. then let us know if you've got problems still.

I agree with paddymail, DVD+RW/-RW totally mess up your laser. For good DVD media choose: Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, BenQ

I agree with these paddymail. Same result; RW discs just don't work. The laser starts tripping out & will die a lot quicker. Use quality DVD-R media. I will say I used a DVD+R disc (could not booktype it..my sh0tty writer doesn't support that) and it worked fine ONCE. After that, SMv3.6 would never play it again. #*-! So I stick with DVD-R. i Use Maxxell for a backup copy, Taiyo Yuden for the main copy. And of course I have my store bought original right on the shelf behind me....

Just wanted to say...I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE ppl to avoid DVD+R unless they can booktype it to DVD-R. Use DVD-R (Taiyo Yuden being one brand) and you can guarantee a 99% reliability rate with just about any PS2, fat or slimline. Why take the risk? Why the hassle? Just -go- with DVD-R brands.

I have a similar problem - I am using swap magic 3.6 to try to play an import copy of Naruto Narutimate Hero 3, and I repeatedly get the "not a valid ps2 disc" error message. I am using the same model of Slim PS2 as the OP (the SCPH-70012). I am using the 'slim tool' setup for the PS2 - is it possible that I have not installed this correctly? Or could my Naruto disc be corrupted or something?

Hello!
Heahengel , I think ive got the same ps2 as urself. Try DVD+R because the -R NEVER work for me. dont forget to booktype it to DVD-ROM! ur ps2 will then recognise the disc as a dvd-rom.

Actually, I am using an imported japanese copy of the game rather than a burned one (although if I can't get it to work I will just burn it). Now I am actually thinking that my 'slim tool part c' is not working/installed properly, since my PSTwo seems to sense when the lid is open fully, but not when it is open slightly (so it can't be parts a or b). My part c just drops right in, and falls out easily when I turn the pstwo upsidown - the install instructions imply that you have to push it in - do you think I have put it in the wrong place, or maybe the part is not the proper shape?

Try a tape and tissue mod:
Tape and Tissue mod: From Pretense: If the fliptop doesn't work, just give up on it and do a tape and tissue mod. Open up your case again and tape the back sensor (toward the upper left and beneath the hinge part of the lid) with duct tape or even regular Scotch tape (I use several layers to be on the safe side), put the case back together, and stuff a small ball of tissue into the hole for the front sensor (lower right just above the power button).
Pics (Thanks to PSPness): http://www.geocities.com/pstwoslimline/tapetissue.htm my tape and more tape
Just about the same, just a change on Censor 'A' and Censor 'B'
Censor B - http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/572/dsc010703xc.jpg keep the top closed, while you tape down the disk stopper, using a few layers of duct tape
Fur
Censor A - http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/4342/dsc010698we.jpg use tiny strips of duct tape to patch over the tiny censor. I used a screwdriver to help put on the tape.

Probably a compatibility issue, USB Extreme is a giant waste of money imo. What's the Media ID of the discs you've tried using with Naurto?
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Huge List of Media ID's (Thanks to DogBomb): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431

Those RITEK's are very good media, so it shouldnt be media related. I get 100% success rate with them.
What game are you trying to burn?
What size is it?
What image extension is it in; ie .iso, .img, .cue/.bin?
And, apart from having Swap Magic 3.6, do you have the required method of fooling the PS2 into thinking you haven't swapped discs? ie: fliptop, magic keys, slide tool etc..
Always 1st with 100% working PS2 Online Game DNA$ IDs!!
