i don't know much about copyright laws. but going through this site it appears that it is legal to have a bakup copy of an original game i own.

so my question is that if it is legal to have and use (in case, i damage or lose my original) a bakup copy . why aren't we allowed to play our legal bakups straight away. and why are the methods we use to play our legal bakups considered illegal?

as i said, i know very little about the law. if i have got my information wrong , please tell me so. and also my apologies for wasting ur time.(in case of wrong info)

thanx in advance.

It depends on what country you're in as to the law.. it's very sketchy on some areas too.
In the UK it's illegal to own a modchip even... which is crap!!! and not sure on the law to own a backup copy of games etc... I don't really care though. If the lords etc can get away with flouting the law on hunting with dogs, then I can copy my games etc.

If they made it so that you could play your backup games straight away, it would be a hella lot easier to download and copy games you do not own and to be able to play them

it is a good point, and in the USA it is legal to own 1 back up copy of your game.
But i am sure the reason has to due with the fact that once people have a modded system, they tend to stop buying originals all together and start getting them from "other sources".
And neither Sony or the game manufacturers are too keen on that idea.
but it is funny how it will play back up movies no problem due to those being burned and not pressed discs like games are.
