Hey all, just a quick question here...
When i try backing up SW Battlefront II with DVD decrypter to an image file it stalls and encounters read errors (retries like 18 times) when it hits 2,000,264 kb or so, anyone else getting this problem? I'm having it read at stock speed of 16X and have never had this happen before, should i bring the speed down to 8X?
Any and all suggestions are welcome!!!

ok WTF?!?!?!?!?!?! lol
has a barely visible scratch about 2mm long in the direction of the tracks (not going from the inside towards out)that might be causing the read errors, not sure. tried like 7 layers of "scratch-fix wax type thing with like an extra 200kb data read but that's all.
I'm using DVD decrypter's latest version, and even tried setting my Lite_on's firmware back to stock with no change.
Any suggestions?

I'd take the game back and get an unscratched copy personally. although as the game needs stuff done to it to get it to work anyway.. just follow this guide:-
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/257450
good luck with it, and make sure you use good quality media.. I suggest using 8x DVD-R discs from verbatim or taiyo yuden and burning the rebuilt iso at 4x using DVD Decrypter.

no no no!
it's not the media that's the problem, DVD Decrypter won't even rip a complete ISO to begin with! it stops halfway through a about 2GB and the drive just stops and DVD Decrypter shows retry after retry...

Read what I wrote again, I didn't say that the media is the problem!!... I said to follow the instructions in that link to rebuild and then MAKE SURE that you use good media.. wasn't saying that yours isn't...was just saying not to use crap media as the backup probably wouldn't work anyway even if you did everything right if you're using crap media..
Instead of trying to get an iso to the HDD, just use apache2 or iso buster to get the files to the HDD instead and then rebuild it using the thread I linked to as a guide. It needs to be rebuilt anyway and to change a line or 2 in the system file.

Did you say "Read what I wrote?!??!?!?!?!"
correct me if i'm wrong, but haven't i said like 3 times that DVD Decrypter stops at like 2Gb (43% complete) when reading the disc to create an ISO?
correct me if i'm wrong (again!) but doesn't step 1 of your guide say "Open decrypter to iso read to put the game iso on hard drive"????
am i retarded or are you telling me that the way to fix my problem of DVD Decrypter NOT finishing creating an ISO is to "Open decrypter to iso read to put the game iso on hard drive"?????
for god's sake "READ WHAT I WROTE" lololololol

Trying to use ISObuster to get it done, finds the same read error, says "sector 1000516 couldn't be read"...
do i 1)Omit the sector, 2) replace with all zeroes, or 3) replace with dummy data?

Please stop with all the bickering and just take the game back to where ever you bought it and tell them it must have got scratched on the production line or rent the d&(* thing because the one you have is just going to give you trouble.....99% of the time if you cannot rip it from dvd dycrepter then there is a scratch VISIBLE OR NOT on the disk...Just my opinion....your welcome...

Well if it won't rip with iso buster then do what I originally said, and take it back to where you got it from and get a new one.... I only suggested iso buster if it could rip the files off that way.
good luck with it

Quote: All your doing is rebuilding the game and changing the system file
GET Apache 2
GET CDdvdgen 1.20
DVD Decrypter
That's all you need
1.Open decrypter to iso read to put the game iso on hard drive
2.open the game with apache point to the game on you left that looks like a CD image right click it and hit extract all to your desktop
when it's done with that go to your folder and open the system file with notepad and change it to
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SWBFRNT2.ELF;1
VER = 1.01
VMODE = NTSC
for PAL users keep it PAL save and go to the next step
3.When thats done open cddvdgen click new project then click dvd-rom master disc put the game files in the same order that apache had them go to volume and where it say Disc name you put for ex.(SLUS *****)
after that go to producer name put in PLAYSTATION and where it say Licence Area i pick america. Ater that go to file at the top on cddvdgen and click Export iml file it will ask you to save on your HDD you can put a short name of the game click save and that's it for cddvdgen close it
4. Go back to apache go to file on the top and click Import iml file then you should see on your right all the file of the game then go back to file and click build ISO and there you go wait for it to finish and burn it to a DVD-R 1x-4x on good media
HDD users
When you install the game using winhiip or like utility, It will show you the SLUS_ boot file. Replace that with SWBFRNT2.ELF. This game also needs to be run in mode 3.
that's all to it
Instead of ripping it to an iso with DVD Decrypter, you just put the disc in the drive and open apache2, select all the files and hit extract all... you just cut out the iso rip to disc part. And when I siad "read what I wrote" I was refering to the good media part, don't go getting smartass with me or I won't bother trying to help you.

no worries, I'm not gonna turn this into a flaming war or something.. but I was just trying to help you which is what most of us come on here for.

sounds good.
thanks for the help, i really appreciate it, if anything i learned i could use apache2 and/or ISObuster to make ISO's so that's a positive.
i'm guessin the disc is just screwed, not gonna sweat it though.
thanks again

I've seen a few copies of that game be defective with the most minor of cosmetic blemishes, and one that had no visible imperfections whatsoever wouldn't load on a new ps2. The company burned this game on cheap media, or had a bad batch, or something. But if the store doesn't help you out Lucas Arts was good about replacing it. Slow, but free and no questions asked.

I managed to backup this game onto a Verbatim DVD @ 4x (half the max speed, always) and patch the DNAS and it runs flawlessly.
