Is there a place on the net that sells the old versions of swap magic ? if so then we could buy them, then boot the new backup versions which can be downloaded at torrent sites. I suspect the older versions would be alot cheaper ?

Thanks

First off, before you get banned for doing something dumb, you should know that this board doesn't condone piracy.

Anyways, it's an idea you could try, I guess. Just look on torrent sites and P2P networks to see if anyone's even BOTHERED to back those games up.

If you wanna save some money, buy Swap Magic 3, they all work fairly well, and there's very few updates between the first 3 and 3.6+. Not only that, but a lot of places carry some of the old versions because no one wants them anymore. Each update pretty much renders the old versions useless.

In the future, maybe the Swap Magic guys will do something smart, like driver/firmware upgrades, instead of making everyone buy a whole new set of discs every time they update their stuff. It'd be cheaper for the consumer, and infinitely cheaper for them. In other words, you could buy Swap Magic to load programs off a USB disc, and simply have the program loaded off of that.

Anyways, the issue is this : when Swap Magic finally makes Swap Magic 4.0 (if they do) with dual-layer disc support, then your idea will be moot for the DL games.

or just do the smart thing.
Save your money and get a GOOD chip installed instead.
save yourself the hassle of swapping, rebuilding games, patching stuff, not to mention the problems with screen cut off that swap magic has with games from other regions, and the fact that it will not play DVD9 back up's at all.
I used it when i first started out because it was the cheaper way to go, now that i have my modded V12, the old V7 with fliptop has been demoted to the closet.

Yeah i agree totally with all you guys but this would be a great idea if you were buying lots of these disks like 100 of em thats 500 pounds saving dude or 800 dollars. Its definetly something i would take into consideration if i was in that possition
