Another problem to add to my collection.
Until yesterday i was using windows 98, prassi primo dvd and my Pioneer DVR-104 and all was fine apart from being unable to create files over 4gb because of the fat32 file system. So I installed Windows XP and all was looking fine again until i loaded up Prassi Primo and found that it would not recognise My DVR-104 as a DVD writer.
Can someoneplease help as I am stuck yet again and have my sledge hammer ready to smash the f***ing thing to bits.

Thanks in advance,
Cobra

Does Nero or DVD Decrypter recognize your drive?

Yes i used DVD decrypter to rip the DVD at first then I used ifoedit and striped the movie, as it was still too big I then used rempeg to rencode the movie snd finally used ifoedit to remux get vts sector and create an image.
Then I tried to use Prassi to burn the image, at first it would not recognise my drive as a recorder but I finally got it recognise it (long story).
The problem now is it keeps terminating with errors. Is there a burn-proof option?

Ive also tried Gear Pro DVD 6.0 and got the following error:
Drive and media check was not succesful
SCSI Selection timeout occurred
Check cables and power
The disk is not successfully recorded

I have an IDE drive not SCSI so I just dont know whats up I hope you can help.

Thanks,
Cobra

I've also experienced extremely weird problems with A03 (the previous model) and still haven't managed to burn DVDs, although CDR burning works just fine.

Probably some issues with firmware or you might also need to upgrade your Primo software in order to get it to recognize A04.

I might just do that, but it was working before I installed Windows XP so I dont think the drive is at fault. And I can still erase a rewritable disk I think it is something silly that ive overlooked but cant think what.
P.S Has Prassi Primo got Burn-Proof option

You might want to take a look at your device settings -- Pioneer Australia (I'm not from there, but it's the only Pioneer's site with an actual info/faq) suggested for A03 issues to go to Device manager in Windoze and see your IDE controller's settings. If your drive is in secondary IDE spot and if it has DMA enabled, try switching it back to PIO (or vice versa if PIO is selected).

Didn't help me though -- my problem is vice versa to yours, I can't get my drive to recognize/erase/burn DVD-RWs. Haven't tried DVD-Rs yet, should get some blanks within a week or so.

Already changed from secondry master to primary slave, in WIndows XP I dont know how to check if DMA is enabled or not. And ive just found out that when doing a full erase on a RW it fails but is ok during quick erase.
I think im going to try windows 98 again see if it still works with that.
Do you know if windows 98 will recognise a drive or partition that uses the NTFS files system.

Windows 98 will not recognize NTFS

and NTFS has no backwards compatibility.

You are SOL there with that.

hi there, i have a dvr-104 drive, works fine under XP for me, XP will load the drivers and set the DMA for the drive automaticly.
I have my drive set to Master and on it's own, as i was getting feedback from my other drive on the same IDE cable.
Make sure u update your windows XP as there is a patch for CD-DVD writers.
If still not working uninstall drive and then reinstall it and the software.

this message is for nick cobra2002 -- I am in the process of purchasing a La Cie DVD-RW over the QPS system. From what I understand, both manufacturers use the same mechanism (the pioneer DVD-RW), but the only differences between the two are support and software bundles.

I have been leaning toward La Cie because their support is local to me, and I'll be able to forgo the expense of calling long distance in Texas for QPS. But I was also impressed with the software that La Cie's drive came with... it comes with the Prassi Primo DVD, Sonic Solutions DVDit! and MyDVD. Although I don't know much about the Prassi... but after reading the problems you have had with Prassi, I'm starting to rethink the whole thing.

I'd really appreciate if you could email me when you have a chance. I have a few questions and its sounds like you have some advice to offer... but namely, I'm just wondering if you have figured out how to get the Prassis working on XP because I'm not about to revert to Windows 98.

You can respond to jfiore@canada.com -- and in the subject line, just put Re: Prassi Software Issues.

Thanks in advance

You need the latest ASPI drivers from adaptec for XP/2000. Without them, Nero or any of the other programs you use to burn wont see/init the drive. I had the same issue.

You can get them here:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&cat=%2fOperating+System%2fMicrosoft+Windows+XP&filekey=aspi_v471.exe

this will not help much, but all rewritable dvd and cd drives are indirectly recognized as scsi. it has something to do with the atapi standard and the inadequacies of it. I was also having this problem, but it turned out to be the drive for an exchange solved everything.
if the aspi drivers do not help try to reinstall the drivers for the drive.

Folks,
I had the same problem with Prassi giving me - all of the sudden - the "Data Disk Terminated with errors"...

After HOURS of tweaking my hardware and Windows, I have a very simple solution, and it worked fine for me...

The thing is, it has nothing to do with the software or with the hardware, but it seems that when ripping vobs using dvd-decrypter or smartripper, some of the vobs or the ifo's seem to be slightly oversized by a few hundred bytes... And Prassi can't handle them...

Solution: Rip the dvd with dvd-decrypter, then run Ifoedit, load the vts_01_0.ifo, and in "vob extra's" select "strip streams"... Let ifoedit create new ifo's and set the vob-size to 1 GB...

And after 15 mins you get files that match with prassi...

Succes!!
