Hey i have a few questions for you guys.

1.What are the best mod chips and where can i get them?
2.What are the best backup utilities besides A120%?
3.Do I need a DVD ROM/Writer or could I use a CD Writer?
4.Do I need a PS2 Hard Drive?
5.Is there anyway to load my PS2 up to my PC and use it to read the PS2 disc and burn its .iso image to CD-R?

All help comes very appreciated you cool people.

Without a dvd burner you're hopeless.

i was gonna buy a dvd burner anyway but i just wondered if it would work with a cd-r

Now-a-days, 95% PS2 games are on DVD and 5% are on DVD9 disc. So it's wise to get a dual/double layer dvd burner.
