well after finally being persuaded i bought swap magic 3.6 dvd/cd versions and a slide tool.

i've downloaded resident evil 4 and burnt the iso to a dvd-r using nero 7.0 (been told this works fine)

i insert swap magic and get the swap magic home screen. use the slide tool and insert resident evil 4, slide drive back in an press boot.

this is when my ps2 makes a god awful noise and then presents me with the message 'please insert ps2 disc'

what am i doing wrong?

It sounds like you're using the slide-tool incorrectly, the catch needs to be locked back into place after you push the tray closed again... I don't use one myself, but have heard they can be really awkward to use...
And what discs are you using? take a look in my sig at the best media link... you'll only have problems if you use bad quality discs.

good luck with it

I've used Slide Tool before and paddymail is correct. The god awful noise kinda suggests the you haven't got the final slide quite right.

When you swap the disc, push the tray in and have to stick the tool in (huh huh), it's like you're hooking something inside the PS2 and then move the tool left or right (I can't remember which). Some part of the drive will then clunk down - you'll know if you've got it right.

It does work, but it's not great, I changed to Flip Lid after about a week.

All the best.

Glad it worked out for ya... it's nearly always something really easy to fix. I would deifinitely get the fliptop lid for it, much easier to work with and less chance of breaking something in your ps2 than the slidecard. Remember to buy good quality discs too, like taiyo yudens, verbatims or ritekg04 or g05 discs.

IMO, Swap Magic with slide tool is the best option, doesent void warranty, and it is v.easy to understand and use.. but whatever floats your boat I guess :P

But if you have a fat ps2, it's most likely not got a warranty anyway.. unless you happened to get one of the very last fat ps2's sold or got hold of some old stock somehow.

Yeah spose. Aint as expensive and next no chance of your PS2 blowing a fuse because of the chip.
