I have many PS2 backups over time that I have burned on Ritek G04s at 2x speed. I like to use the Memorex Dvd labels so the discs look nice instead of just writing on them. However, I have noticed that my PS2 (v12, DMS4 Pro) can no longer read them. They either have just a blank screen, long load times, or not even get detected at all. I then tried to see if I could read the ISO via DVD Decrypter and it would spit out read errors. I am begginning to suspect that the labels are causing them to generate errors for some reason. Maybe because it makes the discs heavier.....has anyone else noticed this? Or maybe I've had too much to drink.

While I can't comment on if you've had too much to drink (=P), I can say that it is possible that DVD Labels can damage the data depending on what type of adhesive is used and if the label is placed imperfectly, causing it to be misbalanced. Misbalanced discs often put larger strains on lasers and can also get scratched more easilly while spinning. So, yes disc labeling CAN ultimately damage disc data, but it's not the law. I stick to the felt tip permanent marker solution, but that also can cause problems too so they say.

In this link they describe the pros and cons of different DVD labeling methods: http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa9.htm

Signature? What signature!? Oh wait...I actually have one

Putting labels on your backups? This is a bad idea, especially for PS2 consoles. Labels makes your disc spins unevenly, therefore you're going to see playback issues down the road. If you want to have some cool pictures on your backups, then I recommend hub printable or Silver Inkjet printable Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Maxell (mij by Hitachi), these are top notch media and yes.... they have printable discs, so you can print directly onto the media.

High quality media = no labels = no freezing = free of worries = nice looking custom pictures. Hence look at my sig (I've got GT4 on one of my must trusted media, the one and only Taiyo Yuden).

Live and learn.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Yeah I figured the labels were the culprit. I think you have it right by the labels making the discs uneven. I even tried to re-backup a movie dvd that had a label on it and it gave out read errors as well. I guess the best thing i can do now is improve my penmanship! Cheers!

The same thing happend to me on my modded ps2. Over time after i labelled the discs they stopped working. The problems were the same so i got an idea of checking if another modded ps2 can play these games, and what do you know they worked, no glitches or anything. so all i really had to do was tweak or re-adjust the modification chip. Just like you do to a car everyonce in a while.

Well they say that the DMS4, Matrix Infinity, and the Crystal Chip are the best. But I particualry would get the Crystal Chip if I was going to buy one.
