I must decide which one to purchase. From four DVD+-RW internal
optical drives.

Pioneer DVR-110BK

BenQ DW1640

LiteOn 1635S05C

Sony DWQ30AB2

According to www.cdrinfo.com BenQ has the best preformance regarding reading, writing, burning both +- single and dual layer.

Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks.

I thought BenQ phased out the 1640 with a 1655 (a 1640 with Lightscribe) taking its place?

Regardless, I'm happy with my BenQ 1640. It actually burns better at high speeds then lower. :)

CDRLabs.com also reviewed the 1640. Check out their review at the link below.

I live in Croatia and I found two stores
selling it for aprox. $58

There's bulk version and retail version.

Bulk is $50 and retail is $58

What is the difference?

Retail is nicely boxed and usually comes with software (Nero), cables, etc. The OEM is usually bare drive only. Spend the extra $8 and get the Retail. My vote if for the BENQ 1640.

out of your 4 choices, definitely the Benq 1640..i love my 2 Benq burners~ :)

second choice would be the Pioneer, i would stay away from the Sony only because that is an OEM unit lacking firmware updates from official Sony website~ :) and the Liteon, it's too old...if getting a Liteon, i would suggest the 1693S...

but with those 4 you have to choose from, DEFINITELY the Benq dw-1640~

BenQ DW1640

Have one, Love It, Great Burns. If you don't need the software, get the OEM.

Easy, BenQ DW1640. It's what all the cool people are using.

When evolution selects its agents, it does so at a cost, makes demands in exchange for singularity, and you may be asked to do something against your very nature. This force, evolution, is not sentimental. Like the Earth itself, it knows only the hard facts of life's struggle with death. All you can do is hope and trust that when you have served its needs faithfully, there may still remain some glimmer of the life you once knew.

Thanks guys!
You made my life so easy.

There's just one thing.

cdrlabs.com says that BenQ has questionable writing quality when recording some DVD-R media at 16x and questionable writing quality with some DVD+R DL media and that doesn't support the Mt. Rainier format

Could someone explain this?

I found some excellent DVD-R media called Giga Multispeed Master 1x-4x. I actually bought them as they were cheap (10 pcs spindle box for Ł2) and found them to be, well, GREAT!
Excellent quality... I use them in my notebook's DVD recorder which is Pioneer DVR-K15 and I can say that I am very satisfied with the audio and video quality and they work on any of my standalone DVD players.
Will it work with BenQ?

For DL writing I use Verbatim media. Is that OK?
