If anyone has information on backing up:

The Matrix - Path of Neo (PAL)
Anubis II (PAL)
Crime Life (PAL)
Shadow of Rome (NTSC)

PLEASE let me know. I take good care of my collection and I would like to make copies of these games. I am fairly knowledgeable in making backups and I have figured out a few of the tricky titles I own, but these have me stumped. Thanks

I have backed up Shadow of Rome and Matrix Path of Neo, both NTSC version's. I burnt them to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. I ripped and burned em with DVD Decrypter. Matrix Path of Neo was cracked by Swap Magic users who figured out that you need to use Expert to rebuild it. What kind of media are you using?

10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip. Another purpose of rebuilding is to make games run smoother. Usually the size of the game after rebuilding is smaller, but not always. If you're a Swap Magic user, make sure to look out for dummy files when rebuilding.

11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949
With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515
With Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar
Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT:
From Anthony 05:
Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work.

1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.

Make sure you do it in that order.

This worked for me when every other way failed.
It is very easy to do so even the noobies should be able to do it.
Keep in mind im backing up the PAL version, but if your having trouble backing up with NTSC then i dont see a problem trying.
Good luck.

I appreciate your help. I have everything sized properly to burn, and I have successfully burns all games listed... they even load, but all of them get stuck while loading and I have read that this is a sign of a game not being rebuilt properly, or a dummy file not being removed? I am using expert right now as you have explained above. I will let you know how this works out for me. Thanks again.

Well again what kind of DVD's are you using? Sounds like it could be a cheap media problem.

Sony DVD+R. They have never failed me, except for on these titles, which I have heard were kind of tricky, so I never really related it to my media. Do you think this is the problem?

What's the media ID on those Sony's? If they're made in Japan, it should be YUDENxxx. Try booktyping them.

53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).
Booktyping with Nero and DVD Decrypter: http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Did you overwrite the dummy file? Try rebuilding using Nero and IsoBuster. That's how I rebuild games. Make sure you overwrite the dummy file. That is the key to rebuilding when a game has dummy files.

I tried that method about 3 times. I then extracted all Image files into a folder. Replacing the dummy file (making sure to name it EXACTLY as it was originally), and burning the new compilation. I used instructions from you in the other post, and this has worked for every other game except the games I listed above. It?s a bit frustrating, but I am trying to try out all possibilities. Maybe I should re download the image and try this process again? Thanks again.

Make sure your burner is in DMA mode and your firmware is up to date.

92. Q. What is firmware and why should I care?
A. Firmware as defined by AD:
Sort of a "operating system of the hardware", an embedded instruction set built-in or flashed into a hardware equipment, such as a router, CDR drive, DVD-ROM drive, washing machine, etc.
Newer Firmware can unlock new features that are sealed on certain DVD Burners like booktyping, or simply enhance your existing Burner by improving burn quality and media compatiblility. Keeping your Firmware up to date is essential to ensure quality burns and maximum functionality from your DVD Burner. When flashing your burner with new Firmware, be very careful. Make sure you shut down all programs running in the background, the DVD-ROM drive is empty, and you follow all the directions included in the Firmware download exactly. A bad flash can fry your DVD Burner. Proceed with caution. You can find all the Firmware you'll ever need here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

82. Q. When I'm burning with DVD Decrypter or Nero I get an I/O error or some other strange error, what's going on?

Shadow of Rome is Impossible. I have tried every method I have heard of using expert and manually. I have extracted the LBA and the files THEN changed the Dummy before rebuilding as well as not touching a thing and just rebuilding with expert. Nothing will work. How did you go about rebuilding this game specifically?

I didn't rebuild, I have a modchip so no rebuilding is necessary. Did you download the game? If so you may have gotten a crappy DVD rip. Try acquiring an original copy and backing it up that way.

I'm not really sure what you're referring to. People can download games they own. For purposes of this discussion, that's the assumption. Sometimes originals get too scratched to back up.
