Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I just recently got a DVD burner, so I finally have a use for my modded PS2. :p

Anyway, I own Gran Turismo 4. For some reason, it doesn't want to play on my PS2.. It doesn't work with the mod chip on or off. When the mod chip is off, it loads the game, but when I try to race, it can't read the disk (the little white loading thing turns red). With the mod chip on, it doesn't work at all. This doesn't happen with any other game (copied or original).

So, I tried to copy it to a DVD to see if that worked. I used this method: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/275350
and that doesn't work either. I've tried cleaning the PS2 out, wiping off the lens, etc, but to no avail. This is really bumming me out because I bought the game the week it came out for 50 bucks, and I havent been able to play it since (except on other people's PS2s! :\)

I have no idea what model PS2 I have, or what type of modchip. Sorry :\

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm dying to play this game.. Thanks in advance :D

P.S. I just remembered, I think this might have happened to one game before. I'm pretty sure it was God of War, the original version that someone else owned.

To me it sounds like either the game is scratched up or defected. I would try either cleaning the CD first or just return it if you still can.

Let gaming last forever......

sounds more likely that your ps2 is having problems reading dvd9's (gt4 is DVD9 isnt it? i dunno, i dont like gt, lol)in which case i can only recoment converting them to dvd5's using guides on these forums. Otherwise, I dunno what to recomend if youve allready tried cleaning it...

Maybe I have to adjust the lens? I know theres a little white gear that you turn to move it up and down. Could that help?

I was also thinking it could be a loose mod chip wire. I was going to check that, but I wasn't sure how.

@Fishbulbb

My GRAN TURISMO 4 guide is perfectly fine and confirmed as it is. Either there is something wrong with your PS2 lens, chip or the original GT4 disc. I've been using my GT4 guide to rebuild and burn more than 10 copies to friends and families and their copies played/loaded flawlessly.

You stated that your PS2 can't read the "white spinning meter" once GT4 loaded. This is either your PS2 lens is weak or your disc is badly scratched or pressed.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Thanks for the reply alkohol..

I never said your guide was wrong, in fact its awesome.. It was just an attempt.

Also I said that it cant read the disk.. when that happens playing gt4, the little white spinny thing in the loading screen goes red.

Its hard to explain lol.. sorry.

@Fishbulb

Try to clean your PS2 lens with a CD/DVD cleaning kit, or adjust the lens. Maybe you just have a bad original pressed GT4. If the "white meter" spinning goes red, then it looks like the disc is bad or badly scratched.

The DVD is in really good condition, theres hardly a scratch or smudge on it..

And if its defective, why does it work in other PS2s?

Here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350 -- it's all on my GT4 guide and it's on the very last page (on top).

the same thing is happening to me. a bit different though. my ps2 wasn't working at all and i tried adjusting the lens and it started working. i thought that it was taking longer to load and then the second load screen had a red dial. i think it has to do with the adjustment.

why does this lens adjustment thing happen anyway why isn't it fixed at the correct spot so we don't have to do all this monotonous work on it.

acually I got it working..
I burned a copy that I downloaded, and after adjusting the lens, it worked.
It takes a few tries to boot all my burnt games now though.. even the ones that worked perfectly before.
Oh well, I got GT4 working :p

Oh, I think the reason its not fixed is because after awhile, the lens gets unfocused or something, because of wear and tear.. and to keep it focused, you gotta adjust the height.

Its kind of like glasses.. Youve gotta get more powerful ones after awhile (i think) because your eyes start to suck even more. I dont wear glasses though so I dunno if thats true :p lol

well i adjusted it to where it will work on DVDs but the blue disk Cd's will only work if the wheel is turned to the opposite side. think that it is suppose to move according to the disk and the mechanism that moves it breaks?
