First of all hello to everyone this being my first thread.

I have fitted a new 5 port Shintaro SH-205N USB 2.0 PCI card, installed the software supplied and restarted the pc as per the instructions.

On startup windows automatically detects the card and installs its own drivers (got to love xp). The problem is the operating system thinks that the card is a Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller, USB Root Hub when it should be a PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller, USB 2.0 Root Hub Device as per the instruction.

In other words i think it is working but only at 1.1 speed.

The instructions say how to check to see if the card is installed correctly but they don't say what to do if it hasn't.

So i'm a little stuck on what to do next other than to take the thing back to the shop and say there is a possible confliction with XP and the driver.

plug in a USB 2 device (like a high speed flash disc or something)... if the card is only working as a USB 1.1 controller then windows will tell you that the device can work faster in a USB 2.0 Port. if it doesnt theres probably nothing wrong

XP (version 5.1.200) SP2 installed. I have a USB 2.0 hub that when plugged into the original ports only works at the slower speed, a balloon used to pop up saying something along the lines of you only have 1.1 ports available.

This time when i plugged it in to one of the slower 1.0 ports windows balloon popped up advising that the new five ports are 2.0 enabled and ready for use.

Plugged it into one of these five ports and all seems good.

Device manager just displays the hubs differently from that in the instructions I guess, cos the card is working perfectly.

Thanks alot guys, your help is really appreciated.
