Hi all, need some help here my HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4040N would not recognize cd's it can read dvd's but has stopped reading any cd's so I can't burn or play cd's. Any suggestions would be helpful I have tried everythig maybe I need to change it, is there another compatable one?

Oh my friend, that´s familiar to me.
I had to buy a new one, even though I upgraded the drivers, repaired windows and many other things I was told.
What brand is your drive?

Yep, my 13 month old HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B stopped reading all CDs (music, data, store bought or burned), even though it continued to read DVDs fine. Tried many things to fix, then gave up and installed another drive = problem solved. HL-DT-ST = crap!
