Since they are both dual core, my money would be on the FX60.

yeah the FX-60 is like $1300 compared to the 4800 X2 is only $787 on newegg. Hopefully they will drop a bit in price in the comming months.

Personally I would rcommend not bothering with either.
The AMD M2 processor is soon to be released, on a 940 pin socket, but this will be incompatible with the existing 940 socket, so new board will be required for anyone with these already.
This will enable the use of DDR2 memory, and will lead to quad core processors before too long.
It sounds like your prepared to spend a fair bit of money, so you would be better waiting a while and getting what is just around the corner.

i was unaware that the FX series were dual cores that the first ive heard of anything like that. as far as i know they are are high speed single cores with a big cache

i agree with BIGDK though the revised cores will kick some ass when they are released as they will be supporting DDR2 which means that AMD will be setting an even higher standard for gaming ability. espescially if you get some mega fast 1200MHz DDR 2

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P
Google is your friend...
WorkComp: LAPTOP, intel celeron D 2.4GHz, 256MB DDR, 20GB hd. NO SCREEN IT WAS SAWN OFF :S (bag of crap)

The FX60 is the first FX dual core processor, with a clock speed of 2.6 compared to the 2.8 of the FX57.
Unless you are planning on playing games which are specifically written to be able to use and benefit from dual core technology, then the FX57 will still beat it it gaming.
Tests run comparing the 2 CPUs show the FX57 has a better score in 3D mark by about 1000.
