Hello I have a Sony PsTwo Model: SCPH-70012(NTSC) and Ive been tring to burn games for my PS2. I have Swap Magic 3.6 and the magic switch for it. I also have a Lite-On SHW-160P6S with the latest firmware which I believe is P008. I used TDK 8x DVD-R's with the trial version on RecordNow and selected to burn at 1x and the games worked excellent. I then downloaded the full program and the games werent working. I then decided to download DVD Decrypter and buy Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. I purchased Taiyo 8x DVD-R's and used then with DVD Decryter selected to burn at 1x but it actually burnt at 3.9x. When the recording was done I tried this disc with my PsTwo and it wasnt working. I tried using DVD Decrypter so many times with my Taiyo Yuden disks and had no success. I heard that these are the best out there. Can anyone try to help me on how to fix this problem. Thanks

Firstly, are they proper Taiyo yudens.. what's the media code?

Secondly, did you uninstall that other software you were using, sometimes that can help with burn issues.

Take a look through my checklist/guide in my sig, there's a few things in there you can try.

let me know how you get on

First of all, where did you get your Taiyo Yuden media from? I'm just being curious that's all because if that are tons of fake YUDEN media are floating around there on the net, if you didn't get it from reputable online sites.

Secondly, what's the inner hub id code? This is when you flip up-side-down and look at the inner hub ring, near the circle hub, there's id code which represent genuine Taiyo Yuden. If you can tell me what it reads/says, then I can confirm that your TY is real or fake.

Genuine/authentic Taiyo Yuden media has the following code on inner hub ring, when you flip up-side-down:

4X DVD-R, the coding follows this format: GD00XXXX (XXXX = numbers)
8X DVD-R, the coding follows this format: GG00XXXX (XXXX = numbers)
8X DVD+R, the coding follows this format: TG00XXXX (XXXX = numbers)

For example my 8X DVD+R YUDEN media has a genuine inner hub id code of: TG001162, and a regular authentic MID code as YUDEN000T02.

Third of all, what games did you tried to burn and was the game (ISO or MDS) file burned successfully when using DVD Decrypter? Are you positively sure that you booted it properly?

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Well in this website, which I got from one of the threads:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

It says that if the manufacturer id is TYG02 then its a fake:

Fakes

Luckily, it does not happen often, but it does happen often enough to be a major annoyance to media buyers everywhere. Most fake media comes from Hong Kong, as a general rule. Fake media tends to float around Europe and Asia more than it does the USA. Fake media is normally sold in flea markets, on eBay and online. Major brand name media sold in stores is probably never going to be fake.

TYG02 = This was faked by INFOSMART (Hong Kong) in 2004-2005. Some OPTODISC media was also reported to carry this code. Mitsui is also faking them in their USA and Europe plants. The fakes are rumored to be for "improved 8x media detection" but low quality media is low quality, regardless of the media ID.

Thats what it says in that section.

I PURCHASHED MY TAIYO YUDEN DISCS FROM MERITLINE.COM.
THE INSIDE HUB READS: GG000106
THE MANUFACTURE ID IS: TYG02

I TRIED BURNING "THE WARRIORS" WHICH ACTUALLY BURNT SUCCESSFULLY USING THE RECORDNOW TRIAL VERSION AND A 8X TDK DVD-R. WHEN I TRIED BURNING IT IN THE SAME PROGRAM USING MY TAIYO YUDEN DVD-R IT DIDNT WORK. I THEN TRIED TO BURN WITH MY TAIYO YUDEN DVD-R'S AND DVD-DECRYPTER AND IT STILL DIDNT WORK. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT I BURNT MANY GAMES SUCCESFULLY WITH THE RECORDNOW TRIAL VERSION AND MY TDK DVD-R'S. I THEN TRIED TO BURN THE SAME GAMES WITH MY NEW TAIYO YUDEN DISCS AND DVD Decrypter AND THEY DIDNT WORK.

I dont know what to tell you then except maybe try using a different type of burning method such as Nero or alchohol 120%.

Is there a special setting to use when burning with Alcohol 120% ? I think I read somewhere that you have to choose the Playstation 2 custom setting. Is this true, or would default setting work fine?

That's simply not true... even according to the link you listed as proof. SOME TYG02 are fakes, not all.... I have some verbatim media that code as TYG02 and they're made by Taiyo yuden... that's why you use a good identifier program and buy from reputable companies only.

@gnzplaya - Don't know what to say, could be just one of those things.. most likely though is that you're going wrong somewhere. What game is you're trying to burn at the moment? is it a downloaded iso or from an original disc? Try setting the burn speed to 4x and burn it that way.
Have you got any other burning software that could be interfering? Another thing you could do is try burning it with nero's "burn image to disc" option at 4x too...see if that works.

Oh, and cut out the all caps typing please....that's considered shouting, and could get you in trouble with the mods.

Let me know how you get on with some of those suggestions?

@ppills - A link to the actual media you bought would be helpful so we can check out what it was you actually bought? And are you sure you're burning whatvere it is correctly? maybe it's a user or hardware error rather than the media.

I do not think it is a problem with DVD Decrypter
I have used it more times than i can count and it works
every time. And you are burning the MDS file and not the ISO with Decrypter right? And Taiyo Yudens are suppose to be the best, that much is true. But like i tell so many other people, just because a DVD works great for someone else, doesn't mean that it will work good for you. That is why i always suggest buying them in small packs, like a pack of 5 DVD's until you find a brand that will work at the very least 4 out of 5 games you try. I started out with TDK 4X DVD-R and they worked ok for a while. Thne i bought a pack of Philips 8X DVD-R and have never bought another brand since. Try setting the DVD DEcrypter to burn at 4X, even though i know it is almost already doing them at that speed it is worth a try.
The firmware you have if it is PS08 it the newest there is, so that should also not be the problem.
Lastly, if you have one try doing a movie on the Taiyo Yuden, you may be able to use them for those instead. If TDK worked for all the games you tried. Then i would go out and buy a small pack of them again. If they still work then i would stick with those.

Uh.. wait a sec, I had to choose the MDS file? I chose the ISO file.... :(
How sure are you that this may very well be the problem?

I doubt that the DVD-R's that I bought are fake. I just used DVD Identifier and this is the Info I recieved from it:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier V4.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier I tried burning many games with this Media type but wasnt successful. Then I tried TDK and they were working. People say TAiyo Yuden is the best but I dont see any good out of them as only about 5 discs worked out of about 45. I was just tring out different settings in programs such as Alchol 120% and DVD Decrypter and Nero...etc... while tring to burn "The Warriors" on a Taiyo Yuden. "The Warriors" worked by using the RecordNow Trial and TDK DVD-Rs But now Im stuck with a whole bunch of Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs so I was trying to figure out how to get them working.

EDIT : Hmm, read my reply to the other thread you decided to make.

I don't think it is your media, but rather you're method of burning, and the other factor's you have to consider, such as re-building.

Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's suck! Now I have about 50 DVD-Rs and I dont know what to do with them all because my PsTwo Doesnt want to read them but instead it read TDK PERFECTLY! I know I am not doing anything wrong when I burn them but maybe The settings should be changed. Whould it help if I burn at a faster speed? say about 6x or 8x on my Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs?

It seems that the Taiyo Yuden's are being faked and sold by leading suppliers, as I have gotten my hands on a bad batch as well...
I bought mine from Supermediastore as ppills had, and heard they were reputable from a number of sources on this site...
If the TDK's work, I'm going to buy a pack of those...
My TY discs read Manufacturer ID as TYG02
the Manufacturer ID as Taiyo Yuden
the code on the inner ring is GG000123
(The 00123 is a little suspect, though)
whoops, I thought I got them from Supermedia Store.. Instead I got them from All Media Outlet...
Mine are fake...
I'll have to buy real ones...
