Updated PC power supply problem? Need HELP!

Hi, not sure if this is the correct area to ask this kind of question but i will give it a shot.
I am having a problem with my system fully starting up.
Let me start by saying when my system is up and running it runs very well. Also when i reboot with the restart option it reboots and works fine.
My problem is when i shut down my system and try to start it up with the power button it does not always fully boot up. It will start a few drives and turn off right away. I am talking within a few seconds as if it does not have the power to fully start up. It will usually work after about 3-4 attempts. Sometimes having to hold the power button in.
Any ideas what i maybe looking at? Power supply wearing out, bad start button switch or something?
Any help on solving this would be great, Thanks

it could be the switch shorting the pc off.
if your familiar with the working of a computer take off the power button connector and put the reset button on in its place. try to turn on your pc using the reset switch. if it works fine its your power button

Ok, thanks for the response.
I am expecting a few new drives in a couple of days. While i am replacing the drives i will replace the switch and see if that does the trick. I will post back with results.

It might also be your MB. I had that same problem with a Soyo Dragon2 board. What is your Power Failure setting in your bios say?

My power failure setting says "Last State" if that is what you are referring to.
When i have this problem it is only when i shut the system off (And then try to power it back up with the power button). If i choose restart the system everything is fine.
When i try to power up with the power button it sounds like a few drives start to fire up then it shuts down. It does not even get to the boot screen, it's just a matter of seconds.
I will try a different switch when i get my new drive and get to it this weekend, then see if i am lucky enough that that is the problem.

The switch is a contact switch, not a true on and off. If it made contact to wake up the M/B then it did it's job.

Hmmmm... I sure hope it's not the MB but if it is, is there any kind of test to find out if it is the MB giving me issues? Or is it just something i would ride out until one day it decides to end it's days?

My Soyo M/B never failed and is still working, (it's my wife?s PC,) but it doesn't do it anymore. I would ride it out and like I mentioned, try setting the Power Failure mode to OFF just to see what happens. Also does it happen if the PC is off for a good while and then you power it on?

Yes it does it when i leave the system off for awile. I will also set the power failure mode to off and see what happens.
I will be in the case over the weekend and then i can also see if there are any noticable problems.

Mine didn't do it when the case was off for a while.
It just may be your PSU going out. Do you have another PSU to try and see if it duplicates the problem?

No, i do not have an extra PSU. I guess i will just keep using it until one day it does not fire up and start with replacing the PSU.

Update!
Well i was inside the box replacing a drive, also cleaning the inside out of all the dust and such. I had two drives to replace ( a new DVD Rom and a DVD Burner ) and when doing so i noticed a strange problem, atleast i think its strange.
I currently have three drives hooked up now - a DVD Rom, and two DVD burners. If i unplug the power from 1 of the drives my computer will not turn on, i get the problem as described earlier. So i would imagine that my PSU is screwing up! If i am wrong please let me know.

No, the data cable was unplugged as well. Actually both ways, data still plugged in and unplugged, same issue.

Maybe just a loose wire?!?! If both were disconnected, it shouldn't make any difference.

I am having this problem with ASRock K7S41GX. The computer will turn on for about 2-5 seconds, then shut itself off. I have tried the CPU in another computer, and it works. I tried different RAM, same problem. I tried a different power supply, same problem. I tried different case/case connectors, same problem. I have disconnected all optional cards and all drives. Still won't boot up.
I have pretty much concluded that the motherboard is bad. The computer will do absolutely nothing when I press the power switch, unless I unplug the power cord, wait a few seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on. Then it will spin up for a couple seconds and turn off. If I hit the power button again, nothing at all. I have to pull the cord, replug it, and hit power to get it to do anything.
I am assuming this is probably a problem with some capacitors on the motherboard. I got it to turn on and could get into CMOS, and reboot successfully. But when I turned it right off, it won't come back on. The mobo is going back. :P

Yeh, my problem is not really the same problem as your describing but similar in a way i guess.
I have mine set up like this at the moment.
Primary Channel = DVD Burner set as master
Secondary Channel = DVD Rom as slave, CD writer as master
Sil 0680 ATA/133 Controller card = Primary - HD as master, Secondary - HD as master.
Everything was working great for the longest time then it started acting like i described earlier (I would have to hit the power button like 4-5 times before it would actually boot up). Once it was up and running it would work great, even on restarts but if i shut down for the day and went to start it back up back to the same thing.
I noticed while inside of the box (i was going to replace my CD writer with another DVD burner)if i unplug the power and IDE cable from the CD writer it will not start up at all. If i plug the writer back in it starts up on the first try. "confused"
I am getting a new PSU today "hopefully with any luck that is the problem i am having".

I installed a new PSU and it seams that has taken care of the problem. "Knock on wood"
Thermaltake W0070 TR2-430W (9 Peripheral power connectors WOW)compared to six i had before. It's a pretty nice PSU and so far nice and quite.
