Hey I'm on a system my roommate just bought from a home shopping network (bad idea) and for some reason NO bittorrent clients will work! I can install all of them but they don't ever load! The actual "Bittorrent" client got the closest, opening once and then freezing when I opened a torrent, but the other ones won't even open! He does have Norton Firewall but even if I turn it completely off it won't work. Anyone know how I can fix this or change the port settings in Norton? I'm a bit of ... clueless.

No problem, I appreciate the help!
Its a Dell Dimension 3000 with a pentium 4 3ghz processor, 512mb of Ram at 2.99 ghz (reading this from "my computer" properties) with XP 2002. I do not have problems loading any other software, but I've installed Azureus, Ntorrnet (or Utorrent, can't remember) Bittorrent and Burst!. What happens is when I install them everything is fine, then no matter which way I open them (opening torrents is supposed to open them automatically or even if I double click the icon) it appears as though they are opening, and they show up in the process list, but no program opens. I click, the computer thinks for a few seconds, then stops, and then everytime I click after that the hour glass icon appears for a second and then stops again. Then, to top it off, I cannot end the processes. I'll go to the process list and click on Azureus (for example).exe and select end process and it warns me about ending processes etc and then nothing happens. Again, I've been told its probably Norton Firewall, but I even tried turning that off while attempting this. Maybe it still affects the system even though its off? I was told to change my port settings to something like 6001-6999 (open ports) but I can't even find this in firewall. Lol I'm ALRIGHT with computers but not good enough apparently! Any thoughts are very much appreciated, no matter how rude! (didn't think you were being rude, btw :) )

Ok m8 you have exactly the same set up as i used to have bout 2months ago ,

Ok your problem is your port numbers whoever told you to use 6001-6999

needs shot no other words to describe it lol :)

your port number should be set to anything above the 50.000 all you have to do with norton is allow access it should show up when your clien tries to access the net :)

any other/probs just post back :)

ok I got Azureus to work by allowing it on Norton but it still won't work without turning the firewall protection off. I turned it off for 30 mins and as soon as it was back the torrents would simply download and not automatically open in Azureus, even though the program was running already. Shouldn't the allow list A)make Azureus work any time through the firewall and B)allow torrents from IExplorer to open automatically through Azureus(since IE is on the allow list)?

Go into norton > firewall > click check programs that access the net then check Azureus and that should be it , or alternativly go to norton >firewall and switch it to learning mode as soon as all programs have been allowed (ie/ Azureus ) switch it back to normal :)
