I've heard a lot about DVD copy protection and various methods but still confused how come DVD players play the discs. I mean I have a DVD player which would have been brough some 4 yrs back but still plays DVD where they might have a new copy protection. So how does a DVD Player works? We are not updating it to read the newer encryption methods.
Also when they copy protection what exactly that it means. We can't copy files from the DVD drive putting the disc to our local harddisk.
I understand. So if you can read then what is the problem in reading the discs. Also with newer protection like having invalid sectors how come DVD player doesn't get affected by those.
For a PC to burn the disc you need software to tell the burner what to do. The burner is only burning all the zeros & ones (effectively!) to the disc. Because the discs have encrytion put on them by the manufacturers, the software will not allow the burning software to read & burn the data.
It will PLAY it OK, with media player, Power dvd, WinDvd etc, but because you wish to specifically read then burn the data (that is what Nero, for example, is designed to do!), the software will not let you. The software has to read the disc, but is not allowed to due to encryption! This is where AnyDVD (or any other decryption software) comes in, it tricks the software into thinking that there is NO encryption etc to read.
As a standalone dvd player is only designed to read the disc, the encryption does not effect it. If I am not mistaken you cannot copy a protected disc with these new fangled dvd recorders, because the chip inside the recorder will not allow you to record a disc if it has encryption on it!
with the bad or invalid sectors put into newer methods then how come dvd player can read and play the movie like if we have a bad sector in our floppy disk then we cannot read of it right. effectively the player has to read the file to play it as a movie. so a burning software can also read the file as if its playing the movie as a movie player and still can get away with protection right.

Well yes, but mainly no! The burning software will read the disc, but burning software is not player software! There is a difference between burning software & playback software! You do not use Clonedvd2 to play a movie, you use media player!
The burning software has to read the disc first before it can burn, encrytion does not allow this. Again, because the standalone is designed only to read & not burn, they can read past the encryption without any trouble. The invalid sectors is there to try & confuse the burning software ONLY! Not the player only software. Get it now?
