Those are for rebuilding games. You need a DVD Burner, DVD Decrypter, high quality media, some means of booting backups like Swap Magic or a modchip, and 5-10GB's of free Hard Drive space to backup PS2 games.
1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter.
Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544 If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else?
3. Q. Do I need some type of mod to play PS2 backups or imports?
A. Yes you need a modchip: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 Swap Magic: http://swapmagic3.com/ Memory Card Exploit (Doesn't work with v.11 PS2 and later): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/109289 HD Loader: http://www.hdloader.com.au/hardinstall#prepare or
DVD Decrypter (Thanks to Paddymail for the links): http://teammodders.com/download.php?action=file&file_id=1
here: http://xtreme-source.com/main.php?c_id=download&action=file&file_id=17

Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar
Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT:
From Anthony 05:
Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work.
1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.

You need to unzip it. It's probably a rar or zip file. You need to download WinRAR, install it and right click on the file and click extract here. You can find a link to a WinRAR download page simply by clicking on the word WinRAR in this post.

Tokijin,
That's very good information. It's people like you that keep these forums full of good information. Even though I have been backing up my PS2 games for about 2 years, I always seem to find some small tidbits of information from time to time..
Thanks for the good informative posts..

Thank you. I do my best. I assume for each post that the person has no knowledge of PS2 backups or software and go from there. Burn on!

Hi! I'm new at backups. I was switching out my Action Replay to my game when I leaned my elbow on the game disc and broke it :-( I decides that since I'm not responsible enough to take care of my expensive games, that I need to back them up. I have DVDdecryptor, I backed up "onimusha" on a Sony DVD-R as sort of a test run. It doesn't load (of course). My friend has my AR, so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Will the latest version of Action Replay B4 MAX came out load my backups? or do I have to get one of the others you smart gentlemen listed above? Thanks alot!
