anybody know how to use alcohol 120% to open and burn a winrar file for ps2 , the file is named as an NRG file ? please any help would be appreciated

Did you right click on the file and click extract here? Nrg is an image file created using Nero. What game is it? You need to download WinRAR click on the work Winar, it contains a link to a download page. Check here for info on how to use it:

the game is crash bandicoot wrath of cortex, i have WinRAR and have extracted the file but do not know how to go about burning it to disc, i also already have the game but it is scratched real bad

That is a CD-ROM based game. Burn it to CD with these directions.

1. Open Alcohol 120%.
2. Insert your blank CD-R.
3. Go to File-->Open and browse to the nrg file. Double click it.
4. Once it's open under Alcohol 120%, right click the nrg file and click image burning wizard.
5. Select your recorder, set the write speed to 4x, leave the write alone, the datatype to PS2, and click next.

thankyou very much, i have tried to burn twice using Nero which did it but it wouldn't play usin flip top and magic 3.6, now using Alcohol 120 and a cdrw disc, hopefully it will work

The PS2 doesn't read CD-RW/DVD-RW disks well at all, plus they're very bad for the laser. Use CD-R's. Do you have some way to boot backups like Swap Magic or a modchip?
