just got a Geforce 6600 and put it in, plugged in a cable from the power supply tot he card, and started the computer. Windows XP installed everything it self, but i noticed that everything eseemed alto slower. Whe ni dragged a window on the desktop it would freeze, and then move 3 seconds later, but not smoothlyyou could see the screen refreshing, its hard to eplain, but lets just say it wasnt a godo thing. So i tried to olve this by downlaodin the latest Geforce driver off the nvidia site, puti t ona a flash drive and put it onto the other computer, Half way through installing it... the computer jsut goes black for 30 minutes, oobviously it was frozen... so i restarted, and no everytime i try to boot the computer it freezes at the loading screen or turns black. Does anyone have any idea wht i should do?

To me it sounds like a driver conflict. Did you uninstall the old nVvidia drivers first before installing the new one? Also, what does your power supply provide?

you provided 1 of the answers when you you said card needs 350 watts but your psu is only 300 watts. if didn't uninstall old driver than could cause 2nd problem compounded by not having a big enough psu.

The old driver was jsut an older version of the new driver. And installing the new driver would freeze the system up. Well did manage to actauly boot while card was in but while using the computer performed really badly, could this be becasue the card is taking too much power away from other part like hard drive memory, etc

I think what would help us help you is if it is possible for you to give us your other computer specs such as CPU, motherboard, etc. If it is a gaming machine I personally wouldn't go any less than 450W and your 12 volt rail(s) need to supply a minimum of 30A.

As for the nVidia driver the thing that you must keep in mind is that you need to first uninstall the old driver before installing the new driver.

Well i would of got the card for my new computer AMD athlon 3200+ but my brother neded a new one badly, his old one was a geforce 2 64 mb. God this because it was on sale. The computer iwas trying to put it in had.. 10 gb HDD, about 700 Mb of SD ram, and AMD Athlon 550. I played game fine with it, look while to load games but games ran smoothly. He wanted a new card so I go him this without knowing that power was an issue.

Understand. Hope things work out for you. By the way, my new build has the same CPU as your new computer.
