Im looking into picking up an external dvd burner, out of these choices, which would you suggest:

1.Toshiba/Samsung TS-H552U

2.NEC ND3550A

3.LG GSA-4167B

4.Pioneer DVR-110D

5.Sony Cintre Cintre ME325

So, which one should I get, and why?

Really? They are all ok (except maybe sony..another story) but what do you want to burn???

Different choice for different jobs..on balance I would go for the NEC, but I do xbox games soooo.....

I second the choice for the NEC, even with it's shotcomings it is a hell of a burner.

Great stuff Cougar..I'm really happy with my ND-3540 (c?)..from new and burned over 400 xbox games no problem..It's supposed to have the best read capabilities money can buy..Let us know how you get on with your 4550..then we can add it to the "These are excellent" list of burners being created over on ......not cheeky enough to link to our site ...now remember kids..reasonable quality media gives improved drive life..(and better looking films) (( why am I telling you that???..brain not working again, ah well..Friday night.time for beer and pizza)) :)

Hello Dr_No,

I am usually game to try lots of stuff, but hacked firmware is something I have always kept away. (Personal Choice)

I currently only burn DVD-R media, and never burn above 4x.

Never burned a Dual Layer media yet either (Too expensive).

So I'm quite happy with the original v1.05 firmware on this new NEC-3550a.

But thanks for the advise !
