Yes it is...

Please use the search function next time... there are loads of threads on gt4 already and in almost every single thread it says about it being DVD-9 and having to rebuild it to a DVD-5 to work with swap magic.

Hmm... the only PAL Gran Turismo 4 listed there is a DVD-5, though. What is Gran turismo 4: Prologue?

oh ok, thanks. One last question: If this game is rebuilt and burned onto a DVD-5 properly, will it work just as well as an original copy?

Yes, both NTSC (US) and PAL (EUROPE) versions are DVD9. I'm not quite sure how big is the the PAL, but the US (NTSC) is 4.94GB. You can try to rebuild using my GT4 guide here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350 -- some people are able to backup easily and boot flawlessly, but some people can't boot it at all for unknown reason - it won't hurt to try though.

**NOTE: Sonix has confirmed and said that when Down Sampling for the PAL version, it needs to be 50%. However, I've come to conclusion that for the US version it needs to be 55% (this worked flawlessly for me). I've been playing my backups for months and it has never freeze (no glitches whatsoever).

Good luck!!

Yeah, Alkohol's guide is good... just a few different ways than sonix' version :) most people have got this to work fine.

I can't work out why it wouldn't work for me... GOW turned out great.. I'm gonna try GT4 again, with a few of my own methods when I have more time. See if I can work out where the problem is.. I think it's to do with the downsampling myself, or maybe it's my computer.. I'm gonna get my old computer going and try it with win98 sometime too.

Anyway, good luck with it

@nyjetfan

Here's what you need to do:

If needed, place ACTIVESKIN.OCX into your C:\Windows\System32

Example: C:\Windows\system32\ACTIVESKIN.OCX <-- this is what it should have/read when you go into your "windows" and "system32 folder" after you've "extracted" and placed ACTIVESKIN.OCX in "system32" folder, now inside System32 folder, you should see your new ACTIVESKIN.OCX in there.

To get ACTIVESKIN.OCX into your "system32" folder, do as the following:

<> open up "gt4_tutorial" with WinRAR or winzip
<> double click on PSSDown
<> click on ACTIVESKIN.OCX and extract to specified folder
<> browse to local Disk C:(your hard drive), Windows, System32
and now click OK
<> now it should put ACTIVESKIN.OCX inside your system32 folder

That's it... now try to rebuild GT4 all over again. Hope you'll get a success this time.

Seriously, I don't know how you can run Windows XP without any Windows & system32 folders? I'm running Win XP Professional (SP2) and both of my Windows & system32 folders can easily be seen/found.

Look at my picture for reference:

thats because the windows and system folders aren't in "program files". It was probably a typing mistake.

The correct path is:

"C:\Windows\System32"

Yes, that was my lil error of typing only -- good catch you have there. However, I did clearly stated that it needs to be extracted and put into the Windows, system32 folder. My picture says it all.

@nyjetfan

Again, I don't know if you're running XP and do a search and did not find any Windows or system32 folder.

Anyways, here's what you need to do to find out/locate your windows and system32 folders:

<> at desktop, double click on My Computer
<> double click on your C: drive or D: drive (whichever is your hard drive that is running your XP OS)
<> click on Tools, Folder Options
<> now click on View
<> at "Hidden Files and Folders, put a dot/check on "show hidden files and folders"
<> click on OK

Now go back and look on your system32 folder by following this path:
<> C:\WINDOWS\system32 (you should see both Windows and system32 folders now), if you still don't show/have them, then I honestly don't know. Unless someone (a hacker has hijacked your Windows or system32 folders).

Good luck!!

What version is your WinRAR? I could only suggest you get the latest WinRAR and it should be able to extract to specified folders. My other suggestion is to move your old ACTIVESKIN.OCX to a different location, then try to extract the new ACTIVESKIN.OCX to your system32 folder to see if you'll have a success this time.

Good luck!!
