What is the difference between a CD-R and a CD-RW? Could this be the problem with why my burnt CDs wont ply in my vehicle? And also, what is all the talk about licenses? What licenses? I have seen pop ups about licenses but dont pay them much attention. Please help.

Well, I am no 'guru' in this forum, but a CDR disc is a disc that can be written on, but once you write on it, it cannot be burned over, whereas with a CDRW disc, you can erase the contents of the disc w/ Nero, or a similar program, and burn another project onto it.

A cd-r can only be used once. Once data is written onto it it can't be erased and more data can't be added to it. A cd-rw is the opposite. You can erase and add as much data as you like.

As for the licence issue where do these pop ups occur.

Lethal is right about the disks except for one minor thing. I believe a CD-R disk can be written to several times until the disk is closed and ready for reading in stand alone players. Once closed that's it.

Once a CD is finalised i.e. your burning app says the process has reached 100% then that disc can no longer be used for erasing or adding data to.

I know early on EZCD creator let you add songs to a CD-R in different sessions. You could have taken your time to fill the disk up with music. Then when the disk was full you checked the box for the disk to be closed, the burner then coded the cd-r to play in your players. Am I having a senior moment? Or do any others remember this? If you just lining up song to play on a disk and then burning it, then that program you are using will close or finalize the disk automatically much like a DVD is finalized as the last step in the burn. It can't be used to add anything after that. I would stick with the CD-R for music in the car, some players don't like CD-RW.
