Hi there everyone,

I have a packard bell ixtreme 6093, it came with a P4 2.8ghz chip and 512DDR RAM which ive upgraded to a gig. Ive recently bought a 6600GT AGP card only to find out that ive only got a 4X slot on my motherboard.

I was wondering whether there are any motherboards out for this socket type processor which are better than standard packard bell ones? When i replace my motherboard i want the new one to support my mPGA478b P4 chip with 512kb cache with hyper threading technology, 8X AGP slot and support for my current pc2700 DDR RAM.

I would like one that runs on a better/faster chipset than the columbia VI motherboard which runs on the SIS 645 chipset which i currently use, possibly nforce4 if theres one available?

Basically i want a motherboard compatible with my current components which will give my system a boost for music production and online gaming, any help will be much appreciated,

cheers elred

there are plent of motherboards that are better than your standard packard bell one. but from what i understand that ixtreme is a pretty new machine. are you sure that the slot is definately AGP 4x and not a pci express slot as an 8x card should fit in a 4x slot

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P

hi there

i'm not saying that the 6600GT doesnt fit, i'm just after a newer motherboard with an 8X AGP slot and a faster chipset than the sis645, possibly nforce4?

I do know however that the mpga478b is not a common socket type anymore, thats why i came here to ask whether anyone knows of a good motherboard supporting this socket type, AGP 8X and the same type of memory that i currently have.

I want an 8x slot because i have heard that it lets twice as much data through as my 4X one on my motherboard, which will make it better, right?

The PC was bought in the autumn/fall of 2003 so its getting on a bit

cheers, elred
