First time trying to make back-up copy of prerecorded DVD. BenQ1620/Nero6 plays CD and back-up DVD copies but when I insert store bought (tried many) DVDs the computer reboots and continues to reboot until I eject the disc.

McPoop... Did the symptoms disappear entirely once you replaced the computer's power supply? Mine is an IBM desktop and the power supply was replaced a year ago but for different reasons. Still under warranty, I could get another replacement if indicated but it's a compact unit that literally requires that I rebuild the entire computer, removing even the motherboard to get the power supply in and out!!
BTW, gents, what are your hardware and software profiles?

Yes, the symptoms went away completely.

I have an AMD Athlon, 900mhz with 768 MB of ram. When encoding, the computer would crash to a reboot. I only had a 250w power supply, but once I replaced with a 500w the problem went away. I can't be sure that this would fix your problem, but it did for me. Encoding takes a lot of CPU power, so it made sense to me at the time. I just don't see many people talking about this. My case is an ATX case, so swapping power supplies is easy. Plus, you can get one for less than fifty bucks from newegg or any other cpu parts place online.

McP... I'm not sure about the lack of power causing the problem. I never even got to the encoding stage. Simply putting the pre-recorded DVD into the recorder/player caused the computer to reboot and reboot and reboot until I eject the disc. On one occaasion, I first put a DVD copy in and then swithed to the pre-recorded one and I seem to have fooled it but that's not predictable enough for me.
I would be willing to try changing power supplies on any other case but this IBM is one of those micro boxes (12"x12"x3") and size constraint may rule the day.
What puzzles me is why DVD copies or CDs play OK but not pre-recorded DVDs.

Hi, I have a brand new Sony DRU-810a (flashed to latest firmware 810d) and am experiencing exactly the same problem. Stick a new, pre-recorded DVD into the drive and it reboots until I remove the DVD. Copied or data disks play fine.

I have updated/reloaded every bl**dy firmware and driver that I could find, but no luck.

I'm beginning to become really desperate....

OK, I have made a number of changes to the computer and all is well but I can't be sure which was the fix.
I did reformat the hard drive but I don't think that was the culprit. Check to see that your cabling and connections to board and player are sure. Remove the CD/DVD program from Add/Remove programs and the CD/DVD from device manager. Remove all but the essential minimum RAM (I found this suggestion roaming the boards and while I don't know why, I think this is where my problem originated???)
Reboot, let XP find the player and then install the program.
The DVD rewriter manufacturer was ready to replace the unit under warranty unable to explain the problem but it appears that the unit was fine after all.

Had same problem. reported it to MS and was advised that it was probibly sonic my dvd. going to uninstall and see
