I don't know about any problems...
I downloaded it and it burned fine.
You may have gotten a bad package.
I only get my Games from Newsgroups, they are pretty reliable...

Download a file called quicksfv from here: http://www.quicksfv.org/
The file is freeware. They do accept donations, but it is free.

When you decompress the files with WinRAR, usually it will have a crc code on the right hand side of the WinRAR window...

Open your notepad, type in the filename of the file(s) EXACTLY as it is on the WinRAR window, and hit space bar then type in the crc code (Case not sensitive).
Save the notepad as anyname you want, but make sure you hit all files, and not txt and save the file as filename.sfv (filename can be anything, but the sfv is the important factor)
Then decompress the WinRAR file into the same folder that you saved your crc notepad file you just saved.
Once the decompression is completed, run the sfv file and have your quicksfv check it...
If it's a good copy, then make sure you burn DQ8 at the slowest setting.
I don't see a reason why it won't work.. Mine works just fine.

This game has caused a lot of people problems.
Try my rebuild guide:

94. Q. I can't get my backup of Dragon Quest VIII to work with Swap Magic, how can I get it working correctly?
A. This isn't a definite fix for this game, because I haven't tested it with Swap Magic. I rebuilt and it plays perfectly on my modded PS2. I need some guinea pigs with Swap Magic lol. Anybody who has tried to get this game working without any luck, feel free to try my method. I simply rebuilt the game with Nero and IsoBuster. You do have to overwrite the DMYDATA file, if you're using Swap Magic. Hope this helps some of you who can't get it working.

Things you'll need:
1. A DVD Burner.
2. 8-10GB's of free Hard Drive space.
3. A copy of the game iso (either from an original or one you downloaded).
4. DVD Decrypter: http://www.filehippo.com/download_dvd_decrypter
5. Nero: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/n...
6. IsoBuster: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/isobuster.cfm

1. Insert your copy of the game in your DVD-ROM drive. Open DVD Decrypter. Decrypt the game to your HD with DVD Decrypter. Click MODE-->ISO-->READ, then Click Decrypt. Once that's done, create a new folder on your desktop. Right click on the desktop. Go to New-->Folder. Name it DQVIII.

2. Open IsoBuster. Click File-->Open Image File. Browse to the DQVIII iso you just decrypted. Double click it.

3. You'll see all the game files open in IsoBuster. Hit ctrl+A and right click on the files. Click extract objects. Select the DQVIII folder you just created on your desktop as the destination. It'll take 10 to 15 mins for the extraction process to finish.

4. Once the process is finished, open the DQVIII folder. Right click in an unoccupied section of the folder. Click New-->Text Document. Double click the new text document. Once it's open, tap the space bar once. Go to File-->Save as. Browse to the DQVIII folder. Click on the "save as type" box. Select all files from the drop down menu. Double click the DMYDATA folder. Windows will tell you the DMYDATA file already exists and ask if you want to replace the existing DMYDATA file. Click yes. The new DMYDATA file should be 1 byte. Now if you still have a new text document in your DQVIII folder after overwriting the DMYDATA file, delete it. If it's still there, you must delete it. If it's not there, then move on to the next step. Here is a list of files that should now be in the root directory of the DQVIII folder (If the files aren't in this order, it doesn't matter. When rebuilding with Nero and IsoBuster, the order of the files doesn't matter):

1. BIN
2. MODULES
3. MOVIE
4. DATA2.DAT
5. DATA2.HD6
6. DATA.DAT
7. DATA.HD6
8. DMYDATA (should read as 1KB in windows, after overwriting it).
9. SLUS_212.07
10. SYSTEM

5. Close IsoBuster. Open Nero Burning ROM. If you can't find it, you may not have Nero Burning ROM installed. You need Nero Burning ROM for this, smart start won't work. Under New Compilation select DVD from the drop down box. Click on DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO), it's the last option. Click new. Open the DQVIII folder if you haven't already. Hit Ctrl+A. Once all the files are highlighted, right click them and click copy. Now right click in Nero and click paste. Once all the files are in Nero, click the burn icon. Make sure that "no multisession" is checked under the Multisession tab. Make sure "write" is checked under the Burn tab. Set the write speed to 4x. Burn to quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, as always. Click Burn. Once the disc is done, it should be 3.84GB's. This should work, but I can't garuntee it will with Swap Magic. I hope that it does. If you follow my guide, I believe that it will. Swap Magic users give this a try and lemme know how it goes. Good Luck!

hi, i got dragon quest 8 from a bit torrent. i am a bit new to bit torrents but i have backed up many ps2 and xbox games. so anyway i opened up the folder and i am at a loss. i was expecting an iso or even maybe some files that i could use isobuilder, dvd decripter, or even cdvdgen, but no. there are e-drqt8-001 though e-drqt8-060 files plus a e-drqt8.sfv file. what do i do with these files???? is there a guide

Those are rar files. Download Winrar and install it. Click on the word Winrar and it'll take you to a download page. Right the the first numbered rar file and click extract here. You'll need to rebuild DQVIII if you're using Swap Magic, it contains a dummy file. Try my rebuild guide. It does work.

i have WinRAR, but the files do not have a .rar extention on the end of them. ok, when you right click the first file and extract here, should i do that with all 60 files?

Nope just the first numbered one. That will produce the iso. Rar files don't always have the rar extension, I've downloaded files in that format that were rar files before.

ok, i clicked at to achive on the first file. it took a min. then there was the rar file at the bottom of the folder. i opened it and there is only the first file , it says the file inside is 50,000,000 and the rar file itself is only 47.6mb. should i grab all the files and add them to the rar?

No. You click extract here, not add to archive.

they all are extracted. they are all in the main folder. i am sure of it because when i right click on a file that has allready been extracted you get opions like add to achive and when you have a rar file and you right click on it you get extract options. so they are all extracted. but now how do you put them in a iso?

Okay step back. What happened when you extracted the first numbered file? I'm not following you.

well from what i can tell all the files are allready extracted. when i downloaded dq8 it came in a folder. all the files are there. i cannot extract them because they are allready extracted. what' next? do you have aim or yahoo messenger or msn messenger. do you think it is right we keep replying on the same page? it don't matter too me.

Nah I don't use either of those. It's fine we keep replying on this page, that's what the forums are for. When you right click the e-drqt8-001 file, it should give you a menu. Click extract files or extract here. I am 99.9% sure those are rar files I think you clicked the wrong option, make sure you click "extract here", not "add to archive." When you right click the e-drqt8-001 file, does it give you option to "extract here?"

nope, only "add to achive..." , "add to e-drqt8.rar", " compress and email...", and "compress to "e-drqt.rar" and email" . that's why i think they are allready extracted. another thing is if they were rar files they would be pictured as the little 3 books icon ya know, but they are extracted and look like the little page icon with the program on it. if ya click them they say cannot find file type blah blah. i have many rar files on my computer and when you right click on them they say the extract options. so i am tottally convinced that all these e-drqt files are extracted. what do i do with them next?

ya know. when i added that first file to a acrive it made the rar file. then when i double clicked on the file 1 inside the rar file it showed a iso image. the size is 4,180,148,224 . do you think that is the iso. kind of weird way of getting to it, but is that the right iso?

That's definitely the iso. Right click it and click "extract to the specified folder."

it starts, but then i get an error message: next volume is required
" you need to have the following volume to continue extraction" then the little browse button and this link in blue: C:\Documents and Settings\Joseph Bullock\Local Settings\Temp\Rar$DI23.0172\e-drqst8.002
well i found it in the original dragon quest folder and i clicked ok
it's going i guess. 19% it's takeing a while. i will let you know what i get in a min.
