What kind of media are you using? What's the media ID?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

There's your prob right there. CMC Mag is garbage. You need some good media. Get some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's from http://www.supermediastore.com They're not expensive Boobooman. I picked up a 100 pack of Taiyo Yuden's from there for $41 including shipping. A 100 pack of Imation's at Wal-Mart costs $46. Also you can find Maxell's that're "Made in Japan" at Office Depot or CompUSA. Those are excellent quality. Make sure it says "Made in Japan" on the label. You can also pick some Sony DVD+R's at chain stores that're made in Japan. Those are Taiyo Yudens. Again, the "Made in Japan" is the key. Sam's club carries 50 packs of Verbatim's for around $15.

97. Q. You said cheap media is crap. Well I use Memorex, Princo, Bulqpaq, or Generic brand X and it works fine, why should I use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim over my brand?
A. This gets asked a lot and it's simple. Cheap media doesn't fail with every game, just with some. It'd be too easy to detect if it failed 80% of the time. That's not how it works. It tends to fail with certain games more than others. Cheap media like CMC Mag degrades over time, wears down your PS2 laser, and is more likely to skip, fail to boot, or lag after six months to a year. Use Memorex media with your PS2 backups and lemme know when your laser needs replaced. I garuntee it'll wear down sooner than it would if you're using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. The cheap dyes on the bottom of cheap crappy media force your laser to strain that much more to read your backups. TY's and Verb's use quality dyes which go easy on your laser. Don't say you haven't been warned. Don't come crying to me when you need to shell out $50 for a new laser.

It's not garuntee, but it'll certainly improve your chances tenfold. Verb's are definitely worth the purchase.

In my opinion, the Taiyo Yuden's. I've burned 120 PS2 games to TY's with 0 coasters. These are what I use: http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-me...

Good Deal. You shouldn't have any issues with TY's. They're top of the line.

When burning a PS2 DVD game with Alcohol 120%, the default write method is DVD DAO. You only need to adjust the write method when burning CD's. Leave it alone and follow these steps:

88. Q. How do I burn PS2 DVD games with Alcohol 120%?
A. Ripping the game to your Hard Drive:
1. Insert your disc.
2. Open Alcohol 120%.
3. Click Image Making Wizard.
4. Check Ignore read errors, select your recorder, leave the never seperate box alone.
5. Click Next. Select a destination for the game. Click Start.
Once the process is complete, you'll get an mds and an mdf file. Click finish, if necessary.

Burning the game to DVD:
1. Insert your blank disc.
2. Right click the mdf file.
3. Select Image Burning Wizard.
4. Select your recorder, set the write speed to 4x.
5. Click next.

Note: I use Alcohol 120% as my backup program for ripping scratched originals. DVD Decrypter can be picky with scratched discs. I use DVD Decrypter to burn the mds file. For purposes of this guide, I'm assuming you are using Alcohol 120% to burn the game to disc. Feel free to use whatever works for you.

There's not too much reason to burn at 1x with newer burner's. I get more PIF's when I burn at 2x than 4. 4x is a pretty good universal speed for the newest wave of 16x burners. Burning at 1x can cause problems for constant disc access games. Try burning San Andreas at 1x and see what you get. It'll lag terribly. But if 1x works for you, then stick with it.

thats confusing ..some says burn at 1X to prevent your laser lense from getting out of laser fast and now this 1X is bad ..well why dont we use the 4X stuff :))))

yea Tokijin reason i burn at 1x my burnner is a few years old and only supports 6x DVD-R speed and 8x DVD+R so thats why i burn at 1x. i have tryed faster burn speed with it but they dont seem to come out right they skip and freeze up. i do use the best media to taiyo yuden or verbatim.

I only recently got a new burner myself, so I understand. I was using a two year old Sony External Burner, and I had to burn at 2x with that POS. Since I got a Sony DRU-810 A, it's been clear sailing at 4x though. But not everyone can afford a new burner (mine was a Xmas gift) so sometimes we have to make due with what he have. If you have a newer burner with up to date firmware and quality 8x media, 4x should work fine. With an older burner, you may have to improvise. Everybody know's what their burner can do better then anyone on AD, so if ain't broke, don't fix it.
