Verify that your power supply is working properly to charge the battery and keep the laptop running as well when plugged in.

So what you are saying is that your Laptop is working, just the Laptop monitor/screen is out. Is this correct?

IF you are saying that you can see fine on the external monitor, but your laptop monitor is dark, then look for settings within your laptop for screen brightness or your laptops graphic's card settings for those same settings.

Every machine is different and the only way for anyone to find out how in this case would be to do a Google search with your make and model number to find the manufacturer and hopefully support for your laptop, such as a pdf file with the info on How To.
