Hi everyone.
Well here is my problem----> I just got adsl and while I'm surfin' the web everything is ok even with "save target as" or "save to disk" the download is 54 Kb/s, but when I try to use p2p prog. like shareaza, azureus etc. it's very slow. I've heard about port forwarding and even went to www.portforward.com, but it seems there is no info on opening ports for my Elcon router/modem. My crappy ISP doesn't know anything about it, so please, please can U help me! !
thx, in advance.

What's the model of your router? I have never heard of Elcon routers before...so I'm thinking what you have is a modem.
So if it's a modem you have to:
a) Ensure windows doesn't firewall the program.
b) Ensure the port number you use in your client is set relatively high.

Other than that, the only other times I've heard of unexplained slow d/l times is when the isp is throttling the line.

Helps?

Alrighty, after looking up where Croatia was and getting a geography lesson from my wife, I have found that you do in fact have a router. Though one that took me a bit to find ;) But I found it.

If you're interested, here's the manufacturers site and the manual:

Site: http://www.elcon-system.de/home.asp?lang=1&id=117

Manual: http://www.elcon-system.de/download/public/ADSL_equipment/ADSL225...

So yes, in order for you to obtain uber-fast download speeds you need to port forward your router. When you port forward your router to your computer it gives you a direct connection to the outside world on that port as opposed to having everything come through the router, which acts as a hardware firewall.....but I digress....you probably just want to know what to do right?

Well, here we go. We'll give this a shot. No promises cause I haven't dealt much with out of continent stuff :D

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksy...

First, head to this page and follow the instructions up to when you get to the Linksys router part.
Meaning, you have to first set the listening port with azerus and then set a static IP address (link highlighted orange in the article).

Then you need to log into your router using the same steps as for the linksys by opening up explorer (or firefox) and typing in the address of the router: http://192.168.1.1

From there you'll need to allocate the static ip addy that you set with the port number that you chose earlier with azerus. Seeing as I cannot find a screenshot for the life of me of what the menu looks like for your router I cannot tell you what tab it will be under. If there's a way you can send me a screen shot of your router's menu I may be able to help. But you may be able to figure it out too by comparing with some other routers on that port forward site I sent you.

But essentially on your router you want to create a virtual server with an ip address of what you set as static on your computer and then use the port number you set on azerus.

Oh..heh heh..yeah. Guess I should have included that too.

Head to http://imageshack.us/ and upload the pic from your comp. Make sure you use the 'resize for message boards' option. Click 'host it' and then copy the url that is labelled 'direct link'.
From there come back into afterdawn and start a new message. Insert that link as such:

[img]insertlinkhere" border=0>

And it should come up.

So from there you should be able to do the exact same thing for your router as for something like the 'D-link DI-624' under the 'virtual servers' tab on your router.

Good to go. Grab yourself a torrent that has upwards of 500 seeders and see what your speed is then. :)
Have fun!
