Okay...

Could someone give me instructions for backing up PS2 games?

Please keep in mind that I am a feeble, elderly mother who is doing this at the request of her teenage children. I need the instructions is the plainest form possible. Imagine giving instructions to a toddler, that is how you need to talk to me.

All I can tell you is that I bought my children a PS2 about 3 years ago and we havent done anything new or special with it. No mod chip, no extra software like magic swap, nothing.

So please give me instructions as if I am buying this baby brand new out of the store.

Thanks, Love Ya, Smooches,

Tigreyez

okay..

first thing is first.. Do you have a DVD burner?

Also.. there are two basic methods of playing copied ps2 games..

SwapMagic and Modchips.

Swapmagic pluses- cheaper and easier to install/setup.
cons- requires rebuilding.. which is somewhat complicated.. also require s swaping. Requires slidecard or fliptop ps2. Estimated cost for setup $30-40

Modchips pluses- very easy to use copied games on. No need to rebuild, game can easily be copied and played.
cons-more expensive and more difficult to have setup. HOWEVER.. you can ship and pay to have your modchip proffessionally installed. Estimated cost for having chip installed professionally-$100 (chip and shipping included). Cost of chip itself $30-50

I would STRONGLY recommend the latter. It is much more convenient because you can have someone do it for you and then take advantage of its ease. Once it is installed it is easy to start copying and playing copied ps2 games.
To instead go with swapmagic.. you would have to educate yourself a lot more on how to rebuild and look up specific titles and learn how to rebuild them.

So first you should choose which one I shall elaborate more on.

Also.. if you can provide this info it would be great:

1. Make and model of your dvd burner, if you know it. (you will need one to copy ps2 games.)

2. Serial number of your ps2. Look on the back of your ps2 for a white sticker and write the serial number found there.

3. General condition ps2 has been in. You shouldnt mod a ps2 which may have problems running or has been having difficulty reading 'real' discs.

I gotta disagree swap magic is the best choice. First of all you dont got to rebuild i dont know what your talking about, plus its very easy to install yourself if you buy a flip top. With fliptop you just replace your ps2 cover. With a slide tool you dont install anything. Its much cheaper and also if you buy a modchip you can not play your ps2 games online. Sure you have to swap every time you get on but its very easy. Now i think he was asking how to backup the games so heres what i do.
Put the ps2 game in your computer and open up DVD Decrypter. Then set ISO to read and pick somewere to save it and begin. Once its done open up Nero burning rom (thats what i use but its easy with other things to) Then click burn image up at the top under a submenu. Then pick your ISO and burn it.

Although most swapmagic games are that easy to copy, unfortunately some need to be rebuilt, if you dont know what that is go here--->

and go to question 10.

mike, jif you have had to experience rebuilding, then you are lucky, however you might want to learn because next time you have a large game, you may have to do it.

With a modchip you treat the copied games like originals, you will NEVER have to rebuild a DVD5 game.. they are all backed up using iso read iso write. Only DVD9 games need to be rebuilt, but even they can be properly copied using good DVD+R DL media.

Im just looking after the interests of the original poster, whom as I would imagine, desires simplicity in what she is doing.
