Hi all,

Been doin this stuff for years.
Not had many real probs that I couldn't sort :-)

However, recently I tried to back-up Batman Begins,
I found it very stubborn indeed. Used all the decrypters out there.
Including DVD decrypter, FAB decrypter express, DVD2One, Clone DVD,
DVD shrink. Also a couple of rippers. Unusually I had probs with them all over this movie. At around 57% of movie VOB files copied. Checked DVD for marks or scraches, seemed ok.

Can anyone please shed any light on this one, I'd appreciate it.

Regards,
elev8tor :-)

@elev8tor.... welcome to AfterDawn....seems that you are experienced enough to use programs to get the burn, but you should know that not all movie disks are good presses. You probably have a bad press and only recourse would be to return it and get another copy of that movie. There are no special encryptions on Batman Begins and should rip just fine. At least it did for me.

Also, make sure you have the latest update of DVDFab Decryter. I use DVDFab Express and it is updated so that's why I don't have problems. If you still have a problem ripping it's because of a bad press! just my 2 cents.

Probably a bad press, take it back for another, and try again.

What message appeared from Shrink or Decrypter?

Good luck,

Rich

I too am having problems with this particular DVD. I seem to be able to play the original flawlessly. I decrypted the whole movie just fine as well but I can't seem to be able to burn it to a DL disc at all. I know for a fact my burner does DL as I have done it many times before with the exact same type of blank media (verbatim DVD+R DL) but it seems to crash at about half (near or at the layer change).

I use DVD decrypter (ISO READ) to copy to HD and also to burn (ISO Write) all DL backups I make.

Is it possible I have a bad pressing if I can play the whole movie flawlessly?

Here is a screen I get when trying to burn the disc with DVD decrypter...

As an added note, although I must admit I don't understand this error message fully, if at all, but I do realize it reads "check condition (of drive)". Right after this error occured I successfully burned another backup which was single layer.

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

Nick600,

Since you ripped it your HDD, I would have to believe that the press is good. How many coasters have you had while backing up this disc?

Also, you might want to try Imgburn at www.imgburn.com and it is free, the same author of Decrypter wrote Imgburn, and from what I hear on this board it seems to do a better job with DL discs.

HTH,

Rich

This is actually the first coaster I've ever got from this drive. And it had to be a pricey DL !!! :(

Thanks to Sytyguy for the ImgBurn tip. I'll go check it out but I don't think I'll try burning the same image file again. I'm almost positive one of the .VOB files is corrupt in the Image file. After Extracting the VIDEO_TS folder from the .ISO file onto my desktop, with WinRAR, I tried to play this movie from the hard drive with Cyberlink powerDVD (which always works fine) but this time it did not work. I did not use AnyDVD or anything like that when I ripped it. Only DVD Decrypter.

I'll try ripping it again with AnyDVD and I will try to burn it with ImgBurn.

Any other suggestions ?

Actually, it's all figured out on my end as well.

The reason one of the files was corrupt after I unpacked the image file is that it hadn't been done correctly.

I tried burning it again with Decrypter and it went through without a problem. I can't explain what happenned the first time. Maybe the blank disc was defective or something. I doubt it though, Verbatims are pretty good usually. It was probably just a fluke.

What's wrong with you people? You presume that the copy I was trying to back-up was not in ownership of anyone apart from the video shop.

Didn't it enter your heads I might have a family member willing to share their video collection? That's not illegal!!

Or I might have a mate who wanted me to backup the DVD for him and let me look after it. That's also not illegal.

Don't bother me with this again with this nonsense!!

No special treatment for this title. Probably a bad original. I hope that the original is not rent.

Making a copy of your family member's DVD IS illegal. As long as you're NOT paying for the title, it IS illegal. Same goes for a friend's copy.

Conversely, if you DID pay for it, it's not illegal.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I done Batman begins twice and it didn't work. I took the disc back and the third try it worked. I have always just used DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and they work great. I tried DVDFabDecrypter for the first time and it works even better.

@Mr_Pink

Suppose I buy a Dvd for my daughter with my money. Before giving it to her I make a copy. Then I give the original DVD to her for a birthday present and she makes a copy. She later decides to give the original to her brother, since she has a copy. He backs it up also. Example 1: We all live together in same house. Example 2: We all live separately. We all owned the disc at different times, yet 3 copies were made from one disc. Is that illegal???? ad nauseum! LMAO
