I've finally got burning ps2 backups down, using 8x dvd-r's...memorex. so i wanted to get better quality media, so i go and buy verbatims, and of course, nothing lower than 16x is available...

am i screwed here? all ive seen on FAQ's is to use 8x, burn at 4x, or use 4x, and burn at 2x...now that 16x is the norm..will burning at 8x work? will i even be able to burn at 4x, and if so, will it work just as good as 8x media? sorry if its been asked before but i dont have time to go through 420 threads...thanks

16x is just the max the media can be burnt at..

you can use 16x media.. just burn at a slower speed.. 4x at most... even the 8x should be burnt at 4x

right, got that thanks. but i thought i read somewhere that the general rule is to burn at half the capability of the disc, like 8x, you burn at 4x....4x, you burn at 2x..

so what im asking is

a)should i burn at 8x speed since thats half of 16x? and if i should stick with 4x,

b)will a 16x DVD-R be able to burn as slow as 4x?

dunno how you can burn at 4x when i burn that fast my backups are messed up skipping and jumpy like crap. So i burn at 1x and they all Turn out fine.

ive tryed with Ritek,TDK,Sony,Maxell,Verbatim 8x media all same results

as long as your up to date on your burners firmware you shouldn't have a problem burning a 16x disc at 4x

I've never had a problem burning a 16x at 4x

Just burn at 6x and see what it comes out like... I sometimes burn my 8x discs at 6x and they're fine...

If the lowest you can burn is 6x, then you probably have out of date firmware.

ok so i burned at 6x using the verbatims. im burning using a memorex burner, and dvd decryptor. im burning 25 to life. I put it in, it seemed to start up faster than my 4x copy that skipped during the audio. I get to the menu at the beginning, music, and movement are flawless...i start the game and get to the first movie sequence..it skips. so im not sure if its the iso im burning thats f'd or if its the speed now...

my firmware is definitly the latest..and i used these steps http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/288475

to download that .dll, added it to sys32 folder, and selected the button in dvd decryptor, just as it says above, so am going to try again tonite. this and metal gear solid 3 are giving me issues....thanks for help

are you burning D/L'd Games or backing up games with decrypter?

could be the d/l if that's the case...

I did a google search on Verbatim 16x DVD-R's and I noticed alot of reviews that some people can't burn at certain speeds... it's drive compatibility it seems like.... My drive aparently is very compatible with the media according to the reviews I've read so I guess that's why I don't have an issue....

is it only decrypter that won't let you burn any slower than 6x? have you tried to burn the iso in any other programs like Nero

It IS a downloaded game...ive yet to try metal gear 3 after installing that .dll with the verbatims at 6x so i'll see if theres any difference. 25 to life was DL'd...and skips at same spot using verbatim 16x at 6x speed or maxell 8x burning at 4x speed...

ive tried burning at 4 with these verbatims using Nero, alcohol and dvd decryptor...
