Firstly make sure you have properly port forwarded your selected port through your firewall and/or router.

If you have a router select it from this list and follow the instructions:
http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Azur/...

If you have a firewall (including if you have a router) select it from here and follow the instructions:
http://www.firewalling.com/routers.htm

After you have done that go here http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and enter the port then click on 'User specified custom port probe' (make sure Azureus is running). If it says 'Open' then you have properly forwarded Azureus. Also run NAT/Firewall Test in Azureus and it should say 'Ok'.

Your upload speed also determines your download speed and to determine what speed you should set your upload at go here http://infinite-source.de/az/az-calc.html

Hope that helps

most people on here forget to mention that public torrent sites are slow due to the seeders/leecher ratio

http://www.torrentleech.org - private tracker and is open for registration .. but be warned if you leech but dont seed back youll get banned

you'll most likely max out your connection on private trackers ... thats only because in most cases the seeder/leecher ratio is 5-1

In fact, many of them are fast. I get 115kb/s + on 85% of torrents on public trackers. Sure, torrentleech is fast, but public trackers are by no means slow..

To be honest I bet you can configure you're connections as much as you want and nothing will improve.
If you're content that you're firewall is open then you shouldn't be having a problem...

Here's a point "How much do you pay for Broadband?"
Why ?
Cos I was having the same problems as you - shitty download rates the lot.

I'm with Plus.net and I was on a £17.00 package, I upgraded to the premier package for £21.00 and within 2 hours they opened my bandwidth from downloading at 10~15kb's to 120kb/s

IP's are well aware of the need to use high bandwidth for downloading such things as torrents, and it can be expensive for them if they give you bandwidth as a matter of routine. To make money they need to utilise the net as efficiently as possible.

"But I've got a 1M or 2M connection" I here you say...

Look at it like this... If you're traveling at 70 Miles an hour down the motorway and there's only one lane available that is the rate of how many cars you can get on the road...

Now If you have 10 lanes on the same motorway then you get 10 times the amount of traffic going down the road - but it's still at 70 Miles an hour - but the throughput is X10!

It's the same with data coming through to you as torrent...

Interesting eh.

It takes two wrong's to make a right... But two Wrights to make an airplane!

Thanks for the link Blasphemy. I was told by a mate to try wild-bytes but its invite only. I am getting great rates on torrentleech compared to piratebay or torrentreactor.
