mcbruja,
First off, there are a few reasons that I know of, why dvd's skip. It could be either, bad encoding, bad media, too fast of a burn.
If you could be a bit more detailed of what you did, maybe me or someone else who would be able to help fix your problem.

hI,
I bought that DVD from E-bay
It's a Metallica concert that they copy from a VHS maybe.
It is an Imation 8X
and since day one after the 4th song start skipping
I run Mero check disk and showed some red blocks for
errors
Is there a way to fix that skipping in any way?

thanks in advance
This is my second day here and is a great environment!!

Welcome to aD!

Just in case I want to expand on BAD MEDIA a bit. It isn't that you just got a bad batch, but the type of media you are using. Soon you will find that media such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim are considered some of the best media to own and use.

i have a question about dvd skipping too.......I am using memorex which i know is bad...(i just ordered taiyo yudens).....and i check the disc on Nero evey time i am done burning, but it isnt picking up on things.....i let my friend borrow one of my dvds and he said it skipped like all the time and he couldnt even watch it....but when i put it in my dvd player it is fine....is it just that i am using bad media and only a good dvd player can play it good....and if that is the case will the taiyo yudns be able to play on lesser quality dvd players

TY's will play on just about anything as long as the procedure used to burn them is correct, (burn speeds, no multi-tasking, etc.)

Do you think the reason it was skipping on him was because of the memorex discs and not having as good of a dvd player

It very well could be. What software do you use and what speed are you using on your burns?

It all looks fine so I would assume that as long as you aren't multi-tasking it would be the media and/or his player.

SO,

NEXT TIME I BUY ANY DVD IN E-BAY I'M GOING TO ASK
WHAT MEDIA THEY'RE USING, AND AVOID CHEAP MEDIA

IF I COPY THAT "BAD" DVD TO A BETTER ONE(A VERBATIM)
IS GOING TO STOP SKIPPING?

THANKS

try copying it to you Hard Drive 1st then play the files on your computer from the hard drive.. if it skips then the computer is still picking up the errors and putting them in the files..

mcbruja,
Got some more bad news for you :(
Since that is Imation media that you have skipping, it looks like it will not last much longer. I am suspecting some dye rot on that disk. Do you by any chance have Nero available to you? If so please do a scan on that disk and look out for the errors. I could be wrong but I doubt it. Anyway if that DVD is dear to you, a reburn on good media will preserve to longetivity of your copy.
Also tmfloria gave you good suggestion on trying to rip it to your hard drive first and see if you able to play it back from there. Any more questions?

Hi,
First attempt,
I OPEN DISK WITH DDVDShrink, when analyzing after pass 80%
showed "Error Redundancy Cyclic"

Second Attempt,
I used Dvdfab , copied to my HD , no problems
I run VOB files and didn't showed any skipping!!
Then, when I tried to use DVDSHRINK
it showed this message: "DVDshrink canno't continue,
didn't found VTS_01_5.VOB"

And the files that DVDFAB created in my HD were the following:

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_O.BUP
VTS_01_O.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB

Any ideas , how could I burn these files to a new DVD?

thanks in advance
THANKS

is there even a VTS_01_5.VOB on the DVD? if so what is it? try playing just that VOB on your computer from the DVD..

if it isn't even on the DVD then some reason the IFO file is written wrong...

run it through VOB Blanker and see if that fixes the structure of the DVD files and then try and shrink the new files...

or maybe even running AnyDVD while you're ripping with DVDFAB Decrypter
Anydvd may find the bad structure and fix it while it's being ripped..

CRC error is a bad sector on that part of the disc meaning that particular VTS file is hosed. That is the reason for the skipping. You are just taking chances buying from E-bay, unless you can see the merchandise live, I wouldn't suggest buying it at all.

That's true and called multi-tasking. But I believe in this case it's either an error on the disk or just copy protection giving the CRC error.

Yeah I was thinking it could be possible copy protection.... even though it's on a DVD-R disc doesn't mean whoever made it didn't put thier own copy protection on there so anyone else couldn't copy it ...

but if it's showing errors they disc is probably bad and that VOB is damaged and unfixable....

anydvd and shrink and see what ya get... if it doesn't work then I guess you're just out of luck

Actually tmfloria, I was just being general with Gaby, either/or scenario. I seriously doubt that someone put any encryption back on that disk! :)

mcbruja,
Do you have all the VOB files on your HD? Or let me ask this way, does it play all the way to the end of the program? If so, just try to load your extracted files into Nero video_ts folder and burn from there. If you have no skipping from the HD then you should pretty much all set for a good burn. Make sure you are using good media :)
