I have tried everything under the sun. I have backed this movie up using DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter & DVD Fab Express. The ripping process goes just fine. I can watch the files on my hard drive using WinDVD and it plays fine with sound. But when I burn to disc using Nero (paid for & registered version 6), it burns with no sound.

I have backed up hundreds of movies and have never run into this problem before. I have tried 3 different original discs (all 3 of my kids own this movie) but I get the same results every time. My 2-1/2 yr old granddaughter has worn this disc out & I need a good backup so we don't have to keep buying the movie.

It is nothing so simple as audio files because they are selected right. When I preview the files in DVD Shrink there is no sound but yet the sound is there using WinDVD.

This is driving me crazy as I can think of no logical reason for the sound not to burn. Do any of you advanced gurus have any idea of what could be causing this problem or how I can fix it? Thanks.

Just a sugestion. Dose the DVD have DTS as an audio stream? If so maybe somehow after you recode it sets the default Audio stream as the DTS. If you dont have a DTS decoder on your sound system then you wont hear sound.

If this is the case try putting in the DVD and go to the audio settings and make sure the AC3/ Audio is selected.

You could also unselect the DTS sound track before recoding the DVD which then wont put the DTS Audio on it.

This is of course just a sugestion. I dont know if this would be your problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I don't ever select the DTS audio stream. I did go back and check to make sure that this had not been selected and it hadn't. So it still must be something else.

Load the Backup copy of the DVD in DVD Shrink and see if it list the AC/3 5.1 audio in it.

If it isnt there then somhow your editing the sound file out.

I dont know what else would be the problem.

I loaded the backup copy into DVD Shrink. It lists the following audio streams:
DTS 5.1-ch English
AC3 5.1-ch English
AC3 5.1-ch French
AC3 5.1-ch Spanish

The only one selected is the AC3 5.1-ch English. This is the one I alway select and have never had problems before.

The sound is on the backup copy which is on my hard drive. I can watch that copy and it is perfect. It is only the burned copy on the DVD disc that has no sound.

Try AnyDVD and Nero Recode2 but burn the FULL movie.

I ripped the movie with AnyDVD running in the background & when that didn't work, I disabled it & tried again. I have burned the whole movie (menus & all) & also burned only the movie itself. Nothing seems to work. The sound is there on the hard drive when I watch thru WinDVD but not there when I try to preview thru DVD Shrink or when I burn. I have Nero but have never used Nero Recode. What will it do?

I have tried this on 3 different original copies & it is the same always. Has anyone out there gotten a good backup of this movie?

Nero Recode is simaler to DVD Shrink. Run it and choose to (Recode an entire DVD to DVD) Then import the DVD. Recode2 wont let you do copy-protected DVD's unless you have a program like AnyDVD running in the background.

Well, I finally decided that doing the same thing & expecting different results was not accomplishing anything. I downloaded a trial of CloneDVD and copied movie only from the original. This time I got a good copy with sound.

I don't understand why the sound wouldn't burn. My hundreds of other backups have never had this problem, & I literally tried everything to get this one to burn. DVD Shrink, DVD Fab & Nero have worked every time until now. I guess if I have this problem again I will have to think about buying Clone DVD.

Thanks for all your help guys. I've seen people talk about CloneDVD before so I guess there's something to it after all.
