is there a difference between these 2? other than the 8x and 4x? i'm thinking of buying the 4x

are these both good?

Nobody can know for sure what will owrk best for you.. so the onlt way to go is to buy small packs of dvd blanks from good manufacturers like taiyo yuden, verbatim, maxell or ritek and see how you get on with them.

Alternatively you could buy those verbatim or taiyo yuden ones.. the ones where you can see the media code.. and hope that they work ok..they sould but no guarantee.. and if they don't work ok for ps2 games, use them for movies as dvd players aren't as picky about the media.

hope that helps

I would definetly go for the taiyo yuden 4x, 4x because you shouldn't burn over that speed, so thers no use buying 8x....another thing i would be a little weary about is the TYG02(media ID)
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Take a look at the site near the bottom, im not sure if its accurate, but either way id look for a TYG03.

TY is the best media for PS2, but its up to you, for what you wanna use.

@packman - It's not best to burn at the top speed the discs can write at.. as a rule you should burn half the max speed.. most of the experienced members of AD and other sites will say this too... so if he got the 4x, he'd have to burn at 2x or 1x.

@ihaveabu - It doesn't matter what the image shows you.. could be an image of a different media entirely.. it's best to get from where you can see the media code - something like TYG02 or MCC??? for example, If not then you don't know if they're quality or not. Try them by all means, they could be great, but if they don't work in your ps2, don't blame others for YOUR choice.. and like I said before, you can always use them for movies.

good luck

You're good either way. I think TY's are a notch above Verb's (mainly because Verbatims turned over their manufacturers over to CMC Mag breifly, they're back to using High Quality MCC dyes now) but either is good. If you can get Verb's locally, there's no reason not to do so. I use the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's (TYG02) from http://www.supermediastore.com There isn't much difference in quality between the 4x and the 8x. It's more a matter of user preference and what your burner can handle. I burn at 4x, so I use 8x discs. I've burned 125 PS2 backups to TY's with 0 coasters.

Eh they charged me $8 for shipping both times I ordered from there. That's not too bad. Plus if you gamble with another site as far as TY's, you could get fakes. There are only 3 or 4 reputable sites I know of to order Taiyo Yuden's. I don't think there's a big problem with Verb's. You can get a 50 pack of Verb's at Sam's Club for $15.

That's good. The MCC media code is correct. That's short for Mitsubishi Chemicals. I believe their second only to Taiyo Yuden in quality.

The CC is a good chip. Glad to see you did your homework. You know you need to use hacked firmware for it to load backups and imports, right? For copyright purposes, the official CC firmware doesn't boot backups. You can have them flash it for you. They flashed my Matrix Infinity. Upgrading the firmware is easy. I'm sure they'll flash it for you. Davbere has taught me alot about modchips. He's a mod guru. Well enjoy your CC. The auto DNA patching is a pretty cool feature. Is that why you selected the CC over DMS or Matrix chips?

yep. that's the main reason. plus apparently it's not much different from the matrix chips in terms of performance and features, and it's pretty cheap.

i read their agreement thing, and they said they will not flash hacked bios. i can do it myself. that's no problem.

i was wondering though, you said to get the firmware from here:
http://www.forumconsolas.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1213

i noticed a few other links also posted on this forum, like this one:
http://forums.psxforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=25224

which do i use??

The first link. That other link is outdated, it's v.14 if you notice. The first link is the latest hacked firmware, v.19.
