Hi, I have been using DATA safe DVD-R to back up my games. When I did these they worked fine no problem! Six months down the line and a lot of them now fail, even if I put them into my computer, it's can't read it 100%. The discs are not scratched and look perfect. So I guess I have used the wrong media? Any tips on backing up PS2 games?

if you want the true answer it is bacause you did not do your research. Those cheap DVD's are most likely the cause of the problem because the cheap ink they use is known to wear out over time.
Philips, TDK, Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden & Ritek are the most popular
I suggest 8X DVD-R

Yeah you should use my method to back them up and I use Maxell DVD+R to backup my games with and they work perfect. I even put a D-skin protector on all of my backups just in case something my happen. You need DVD Decrypter, ISO Buster, and Nero.

For more information just click on the link on my signature.

Get some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's from http://www.supermediastore.com I've burned 125 PS2 games to Taiyo Yuden's with 0 coasters. I use these: http://supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-me...

If you get Taiyo Yuden's it's important to order from reputable vendor's. There are fakes of TY all over the place. rima.com supermediastore.com are some reputable sites for TY's. Never buy them on ebay or from shady no-name merchants. http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com and http://www.meritline.com are all reputable vendor's of TY's. I don't feel the shipping from sms.com is high, but even if it is, it's worthwhile to pay a little more for legit TY media.

Ok thats a shame, a friend told me to use DATASAFE Dam it! Also I was just using Nero to a back up! What is the advantage of decrypting first then?

here is a tutorial
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html

here is where to get it
http://www.teammodders.com/download.php?action=category&cat_id=3

it is the easiest and in my opinion best program for making
back ups of games that do not require rebuilding.
I have used it more times than i can count and it never
does me wrong.

Nero works fine for backing up PS2 DVD games. DVD Decrypter is usually recommended to noobs because it's very simple to use and highly effective. Best of all, it's free. In your case the burning software isn't the problem, but cheap media. You can pick up some TY's or Verb's from the sites listed or locally. Sony DVD+R's are Taiyo Yuden's, as long as it says "Made in Japan" on the package. You can find Maxell's at CompUSA or Office Depot that're "Made in Japan" as well. Those are excellent quality. Sam's Club has 50 packs of Verbatim's for $15. Any of those should work fine.

@ kuulaid Did you try booktyping the DVD+R's?

53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).
Booktyping with Nero and DVD Decrypter: http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php

@ flopstock I use BitTorrent download my PS2 games. It's a got a good selection of games and easy to use.

9. Q. Where can I find PS2 games to download?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/249297

98. Q. How do I use Bittorrent? I don't understand any of this stuff about clients, seeds, and torrents, can you help me?
A. Yes- http://wiki.theppn.org/index.php/BitTorrent_Tutorial

mine does much better with the 8X DVD-R's
all my systems play the Philips DVD's i use.
Both my V7 and V12 and my Xbox

As far as the Limewire question. I have never tried that as far as
looking for games. Too many torrent sites which have better
selections and are all around great sites.

Yeah in general I agree with you. There's rarely an occasion where it's useful to use DVD+R's over DVD-R's. I use TY 8x DVD-R's for my DVD-5 PS2 games, and Verbatim DVD+R DL for my DVD-9 games. The first couple I burned, I didn't even booktype and they played fine. The only DVD-9 backups I have are Xenosaga Ep.1, GT4, and MGS2: Subsistence.

What speed are you burning at? Be sure to burn at the lowest setting you can with PS2 games. 4X or less.

Try using Zone Loader or DVD Loader:

12. Q. I have Swap Magic 2.0 and game X won't work, what do I do?
A. Check here to see if there's a fix: http://swapmagicfix.com If not try Zone Loader, DVD Loader, or CD Loader, if it's a CD-ROM based game.

Q. Where can I find CD Loader, DVD Loader, Zone Loader, or Cogswap Loader?
