Sulaim,
Yes, while d/l torrents, your connection speed will lag depending on the speed of your d/l and your connection speed.
But just wondering...you say you're getting only 10kbps...is that the fastest you get? Because if it is, it sounds like there's something blocking your speed, such as a router perhaps.

thnx 4 reply. yeah, the speed has slowed a great deal.
2 b honest, i don't know why my dl speed is so slow. i just have a personal computer and a cable modem. i don't have any network or router. i don't have any firewall. the NAT test result is OK. i m using a different port than 6881, its 46700. the health status is green.
there are only 7 seeders and 25 peers. could the slow dl be becoz of that?
i m uploading at around 15kb/s

There's an easy way to find out whether it's your connection or the peers:
Find a torrent that over 200 seeds. Pick something popular even though you may not like it. I don't know...like a new simpsons episode or a movie that just came out of the theatre. Britney spears if all else fails....just pick one with a whack of seeds and see what the result it. If your speeds don't pick up then you know it's your connection.
Post back when you've tried it.

hey bro,
i paused the torrent i was intially dling. i got a torent with high seeds. it said it had 158 seeds. but my azureus shows 12(72)seeds. any how i am getting speeds of around 75kb sometimes as high as 105kb. so i assume my connection is ok.
so what shall i do with my other torrent? shall i carry on dling it at low speed of 8kb/s or shall i look for it somewhere else and start afresh? becoz the torrent i am trying to dl is 1.7 Gig.
one more thing with this new torrent my internet speed is working normally. whereas the first torrent i was trying to dl realllllllly slowed my net down.
sorry to bother u so much. but then again i m a noob hu needs help.
thanx.

You can try to keep downloading the other one if you wish. Remember that it also depends on other people's upload speeds too.
As for the one torrent causing your internet to be really slow, I'm unsure. But what I can suggest is that try one torrent for a bit (other one paused) and then try the other torrent for a bit, but within the same hour. This way you know if it is because of the torrents or backlog on the internet connection during peak times.

the slow speed was because of the 1.7 gig torrent. it is dowload real slow as well. when i check its details it says total speed 327kb/s. average 8kb/s.

Where are you reading you're 'total speed' and 'average speed' cause if you're d/ling total speed is 327kb/s is uber fast :)
The average speed could be the speed over the entire time since the d/l has started.

i read it in the details section. after right clicking the torrent. oh i wish it was 327kb/s but unfortunately it is 7-10kb/s. does the type of file u download matter?

Some torrents have bad health.. so you download really slow..
BitTorrent is more of a..
Leave on all day/night until it says its done.. My speeds go up!!! then down... =(... then up then down etc... so I just leave it on the whole day and it finishes :D
Just turn it on before you go to school, and check what % it is when you get home :D
Hope this helps you
