I am about to build a new system. My present one has an external HD with alot of files that I always keep separate from my OS. Using the cd that came with the external and installing the program, will I be able to just unplug it from one computer to the next???

Yes, you shouldn't even need the CD if your using 2000 or XP, not sure about earlier versions though.
Obviously you will need to install any software that is used to open any files on the HDD such as Acrobat etc...

yup, I have a Seagate 160GB external that I recently used to reinstall windows XP and it's plug and play, I had no problems transfering my files over after screwing around trying to do a dual boot with Windows "Shitsa" 64, excuse me, I meant vista.....LOL.. Your hard drive should work without any problems though, at least mine did.

Thanks. I keep forgetting XP recognizes new hardware. Since all my files are dvds and AVI, I can leave them there.

Different twist to this thread. I'm trying to help an older friend who has a"small storage capacity left on" his disc...ergo, limited cash. He wants to use CloneDVD but he gets a message that for the temporty file, he needs 4.3Gig space. Could he purchase and inexpensive external USB Hardrive to create a folder using the CloneDVD created folder name....then change the destination window on CloneDVD to the new hard drive designation & folder name to get around his present limited storage capacity?

Answer is yes,as long as the external hard drive is plugged in and recognized.Clone Dvd will give the option of using that disc space.
