Yeah I have to agree with Boobooman on this one. There's no point in flashing your drive if the burn quality is good. My Sony DRU-810A doesn't support PI/PO scans, rendering Nero CD/DVD Speed and DVDInfoPro useless. I could cross flash it with BenQ1640 firmware to enable PI/PO scanning (it's an OEM BenQ1640), but I talked to some experts about it, and the risk was wasn't worth it. It's my only burner. I use good media, my firmware is up to date, and my burn quality is outstanding, there's no point in cross flashing my firmware. If you want an expert opinion on the subject, ask Kivory666 aka "Doc." I agree with Tokijin. Be cautious if you decide to mess around w/firmware updates. They are mostly meant for serious issues, such as unstable burns, crashing, etc. Don't remember which site (prob cdfreaks), but there is a discussion board about firmware updates & their effect after. If you Google on your DVD burner, you can prob find it quicker than I can. The DVD burner in my laptop has a firmware update avail that would allow it to booktype, but i don't want to take the risk. Use DVD-R media, and keep the DVD+R for backing up computer stuff. Big deal...everyone knows Taiyo Yuden is the best so i'll keep that for the PS2.
