I have been using Taiyo Yuden 4X DVD-R Media for quite some time, around two years, from Meritline.com thanks to the fine help on this site. I just purchased a new bundle of 200. When I go to burn my pc will kick these out saying incorrect media. I will put in the same type of disk from a previous purchase and it burns fine. I have tried over 20 disks and it does the same thing. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Here is the link to the media I've been using.

did someone mention Taiyo Yuden?? LOL

anyways, there is a good chance that the supposed 4x TYs that you received recently are in fact NOT the TYG01s, but maybe the TYG02s or even the TYG03s~ :)

the 4x TYs are becoming VERY scarce, so companies such as meritline.com, or supermediastore.com will substitute the 4x rated TYs DVD-R with the 8x or 16x (TYG02 or TYG03 respectively)

as gwen suggested, run it through dvd identifier, might be a chance you got the 8x or 16x rated TYs, in that case, your firmware needs to be up to date on your burner to recognize the faster speeds~ :)

also, if you are lazy and just want to do a PHYSICAL inspection of your new batch of TYs...take a look and find the inner hub coding:

GD00xxxx = 4x TYG01s dvd-r

GG00xxxx = 8x TYG02s dvd-r

GH00xxxx = 16x TYG03s dvd-r

your initial batch were most likely the TYG01, but recently, good chance you got something different this time around...in which case, updating your FIRMWARE is the most important thing to do...

unless you DID in fact, get a "bad batch" of Taiyo Yudens...this DOES happen from time to time, even with TY...just not often~ :)

i've noticed something similar but i was using DVD Decrypter to burn the iso's. i had some tyg01's from supermediastore. and even though they burned on my pc using a sony DRX 800UL they didnt burn when using my laptop with a sony DRX 710UL.
Why?
I have no idea. but ONce i started burning the ISO's with Roxio when using the Laptop it was fine.
I can only figure that it must of been the burning engine with DVDD.
It would give me error messages saying that it was "incompatible format"
I would suggest using another burning engine to burn ur dvds. Try IMGBurn or Nero or Roxio and see if the error continues

Hi there,

I ordered some TYG01 (DVD-R 4x) and received some TYG03 DVD-R 16x.

My old LG-4040B 4x Burner doesn't support them, so it defaults to 2x to burn those.

Burned them well, just at 2x only.

Since them, I removed it from my PC and ordered a NEC-3550a.

Dell OEM NEC-3450a = 8x max
NEC-3550a supports them up to 16x

So having the latest firmware on your burner is important.

Thank you guys for your help. The problem is that the media is 16x and neither of my drives will not recognize it. I have a sony dvd recorder made by LiteOn. A lot of people are having problems finding firmware for this burner so I guess it's either return the media or time to upgrade to a new burner.

Hi Rockyn,

Don't quit just yet :)

What DVD burner do you have ?

Check Nero Log, CopyToDVD Log, or use tools like VSO Inspector, DVDInfoPro to get all the details on your drive.

Model, and firmware revision.

Lots of people on here, maybe can find what you need :)
